Must admit never thought of it that way but made perfect sense when he explained it
I say fairplay to him for thinking so hard
A lot of the videos I've seen about the drop off system they mention the safety aspect but I always get the impression it's a lot to do with dumping the lead so the fish comes up in the water in weedy situations that I think is the more important safety aspect there trying to get across
And for you conspiracy theorists so they can get you to buy more leads at £1.70 a go lol

Personally if I wanted to drop the lead for whatever reason then I wouldn't be using a heli rig full stop
Exactly!
With a helicopter set-up you NEED the lead to stay on in case of a crack or break-off to allow the rig to be ejected off the line.
If you are fishing in weed, then I would resort to using a lead link, or paternoster rather than an helicopter set-up.

Fair enough. Could you not just tie rocks to a Leadclip and drop those instead of half a pound of toxic metal every fish?

Thats what i do, collect large stones / small rocks from around the margins tie a bit of 4lb mono around them and attache them to the lead clip via the 4lb mono . It always comes off on on the take
If you are using a boat so you should be able to find the better spots to present your rigs and lower them down onto the spots.

You make it sound like I'm dropping leads left right and centre, I'm on a lake where a couple of fish a season is a result, I'm using a rowing boat to boat my rigs out for perfect placement so no risk of crack offs, I'm fishing heavy duty tackle due to the weed and because I can because I'm not casting, I'll probably drop my lead once a year if I'm lucky.....
Regarding spots, I'm not looking for the glowing feeding spots where everyone else puts there baits, I'm finding fish and dropping baits where they feel safe in the weed

One is too many imo, and you can get cut off just as easily as crack off and if you crack off at least the lead is still attached on a heli so acts as an anchor, with cutoffs the lead has dropped on the take so there is no anchor
