Very interesting reading this. I've been a big pellet user for a long time in various aspects of my fishing. I noticed a good while ago too that the halibuts I used to use were no where near the quality of the old ones I got, in essence I stopped using them altogether. I liked a mix of halibuts and trouts, with a dusting of nutra par, they used to be that oily in the mix the 1mm nutra parr would actually stick to the rest. Seems those days are long gone now, I'll solely use skrettings trouts in all sizes up to 8mm in my mixes. I have however used some coppens high oils recently within my mix, and have had good success using them, more for the fact of having different break down rates going on in the swim than anything and for bulking my pre bait out.

You're right about the colour and the oil in the bag's, that's something i remember from years back , today's pellet is overly hard, darker and very little oil, the smell changes quite quickly and they dont keep as long.

I was using coppens for years, well priced and figure a lot of fish have grown up on and readily accept them. Recently aquired some mixed Aller pellets and you can tell the quality straight away and have done really well on them so far!

Couldn't agree more about the change. A pallet of 25kg sacks back in the early 2000's (Trouw aqua?), would have a layer of oil laying at the bottom of each sack, increasing as the pellet aged.
Are you sure?
