Sorry mate. I am using the same method. When I said "youre method" didn't mean you I meant anyone. Every body is probably more confused now, including me. Time for a lie down. After that will push a pencil through a spool and get the wife to hold it while I fill a spool.

Got confusing for a while didn't it
Onestripe just to be sure Halfcentury and myself both lay our spools on the side and not have the line come off the lip

That is also the method i use the one in the esp link, in post 13 halfcentury mentions the other method with it coming off the lip of the spool and refers to a water pipe being unable to straighten as when it comes off the spool it has coils in it.
The guys that spool up this way generally do it with the line coming of the spool anticlockwise because some think as it goes onto the spool clockwise the coils straighten themselves out

So just to confuse matters even more, I actually use synchro xt but put it on with the spool flat. Now I've seen that video I'm questioning whether I should change tactic. Wish I hadn't commented now 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

That's the way I've always done it. Soak overnight and put a pencil through the spool and wind it on under slight tension through a cloth.

The same method in that the spool is in the same orientation.
The pencil is not always used if the spool is inside a container such as the one in post #22.

Some say you should only soak for around 30-60 minutes. If you do it longer the line will absorb too much water and expand causing problems with line lay when it dries out.
I don't know if that's the case but that's something else we can get confused about
