400 quid! Even the Gen III jackets are about half that price on EBay.

The cost for the new Generation 3 ECWCS parka is $132.23 according to the NATO stock list. If you want an "outsize" version, it is $145. You say you paid £80 for a woodland version, That is the older Gen 2 and 6 years ago was being phased out so that price would have been about right. The latest version can be found in UK stores for £150 new or about £80-90 used.
I am issued the lightweight hoodless and the hooded "temperate" MVP jackets and I too can easily lay in a puddle ..and regularly do on the ranges. :( To cross a river we wear gaiters to seal off the bottom of the trousers and then wade across. Sorted.
Please do not confuse Goretex, a brand name, with MVP membranes. All British Army MVP jackets use a Gore Industries membrane, but not Goretex.
The jacket you have is for use in snow and ice. The softer outer is more resistant to snow clinging to it. The outer material for standard waterproofs is a hard shell as this is more resistant to mud and rain. The UK issue parka for arctic use is the same as the ECWCS parka, but in MTP camo. It is not marked goretex because the UK military do not allow "advertising" on its kit. The only exception is with boots. This is because current issue boots are a civilian design and therefore available in shops as a new product, not a surplus one.
Snugpak make our thermals and sleep system. No name.
Buffalo and Montane make smocks, no branding
Karrimor make out day sacks, no branding.

That's a different jacket I think Rob, made by someone else. It's not a Tennier Industries one. I paid £80 for mine. A then friend, loved mine and wanted one there and then. He went through the rigmarole of importing one, the same one I had. It cost him the price I quoted, five years ago, that's what he told me. I had an ECWCS before the jacket I had now. It was great, for two years, then leaked like a sieve. It was fake Gor-Tex. There are tonnes of fake Gor-Tex jackets about, copies of what I have.
I have no clue how much a Tennier Industries one would cost brand new now. It might be much cheaper. I doubt it, and there are very many many copies. A good second hand one will go for £100 still on ebay. I watched one a few weeks ago.

Your Gen 1 is still available. It is issued to non combat units. It is on the list as $302. The newer models are cheaper as they have been "de-cluttered" to suit operational requirements. You don't need pockets in combat
Over time, designs change and the latest Gen 3 is a light weight packable item, more suited to combat operation than the Gen 1 which is to "fussy".
The British Army have a Gen 1 version that actually came out recently! We do things the other way round, starting with what is required in combat, and then up design to suit more static roles
Ours have all the pockets and liners etc but is only issued for routine wear, not combat. So, drivers, guards, use around camp on the ranges etc. You will recognise it as it has a black liner.
Anyway, you have a good bit of kit and you paid a fair price. Sorry we were at cross purposes.

Forces uniforms and kit .co.uk do some dpm jackets very similar to British army.
However if u read the small print they r not Gore-Tex despite the main pic showing the official vortex label.
Bit misleading if u ask me.

Got a virtually unused/unworn Tennier Desert pattern ECWS coat with snow skirt a couple of years ago off the Bay for @£80...Fantastic bit of kit on its own..paired with a heavy fleece jacket it really is the mutts dangly bits 
Incredibly warm and draught /water proof. Also have some British DPM gore trousers.Again very good.Mine have drawcord waist/velcro fly and zip up half legs.No leaking seams and they have had some serious wear,traipsing thru brambles etc when luring on the rivers etc.The Dutch gore trousers are very similar but a slightly diffrent /darker DPM pattern and they roll up into their own pocket for storage .

Thanks for that Rob. I'm probably not the best at explaining myself. I know the person who bought one from the states got stung right up by the import duty he said. After having one for six years, I'd definitely pay full whack for one I think if they are still available new.
For winter carp fishing, that jacket is the mutts nuts. I never wear the trousers in reality, but purchased them second hand, in as new condition for £75 from fleabay. Probably a bit expensive second hand, but they were mint, and my exact size.
I only need a Sleeka under that jacket, in the very coldest weather.

I got my tennier ecwcs (gor-tex stamped on the seems) for £40. Issued but unused. There's a chap near me who works on one of the American bases and can get his hands on most stuff. He's got a loft full of it. My only complaint is that the sleeves are a bit short when it's worn over a softie.

They come in different fits mate I'm pretty certain, mine is a standard fit, I'm a short arse. If you get a long fit, they have longer arms and body in the same size. I personally am an expert at buying things online, and finding out mine does not fit me. Then forgetting to send it back most times. I have a cupboard full of the stuff, and a drawer full of unused returns forms. Internet retailers must love people like me. Get another one from him at that sort of price, go for a long fit.
Good jackets are't they. I have tons of old photos, with a British DPM jacket on. I'm the most patriotic person, I love my country. But the US army get better quality gear in my opinion. The jacket I have now, it's as good as new. I'd have needed three Euro versions in the same time. I 'might' never need to buy another waterproof jacket for fishing again, unless I grow out of it

This is the last photo taken of me, with a British Army gor-tex on. It's an old photo now, within a few weeks of it being taken, I had purchased a Tennier Industries woodland. The exact same jacket I still have now. I loved this jacket in the photo, it was quality. But it was quality, for only a years hard use, no more really as it started to leak.
