Hiya mate.
We are far apart on a lot of things but just to clear a couple of things.... Linked to Jon's responses too.
Schools have no power to either 'allow' or prevent gender reassignment. It's a law set by government.
There's no persuasive element. But there's also no discouragement. If a student wants to follow a route then we will offer support in the shape of wider information, outside agencies, links for child and parent etc.
As Jon says, we don't want any child feeling like an outcast and resorting to anything that could harm them.
There's a legally set age of 18 for any surgery. Courts need to apply for medication based hormone blocking treatment for under 16's. All of this is covered as part of educating in this area. So we can avoid some of the misconceptions already seen on here.
I teach a few kids who have changed gender (pre surgery of course) and are much happier being themselves, so can get on with their learning much more effectively. The other students (to the great extent - there's always the potential for prejudice as with sexuality, race etc.) simply accept this and get on with their own learning.
Sexuality is not about having sex. And gender change doesn't necessarily mean gay either. A transition from boy to girl doesn't come with the condition that you must now find men attractive. Or vice versa. It's about self identity.
I'm not getting into what's 'normal' apart from to say that the phrase 'its not normal' is too often used to excuse prejudice and ignorance and can be very damaging for those impressionable developing minds.
Think about this... The two greatest western civilisations of ancient Greece and Rome thought nothing of their senate, philosophers and generals having sex with both men and women. It was normal for them.

I don't think many thought it would be done by Christmas. I don't think we'll ever get to the point where we can say it's done and dusted, both sides will constantly want to move the goalposts.

I also said that being attracted to men, women and a combination of the 2 is a natural thing. I know I went off on a tangent but the issues I have are gender tinkering and promiscuity; nothing good comes of it, except maybe 2 girl no hand hoodwinks.
Something that requires surgery and hormone treatment on a physically healthy person is not normal, not really sure how anybody can think it is. It is accepted but it is not normal.
I respect an adult's decision to do it, an adult being AT LEAST 21. Preferably 35
People commit suicide over their finances and while it would be easy to do nobody helps them, as tragic as losing a young life is I'm not having it that with the right support somebody can't accept who they are. People are born with disabilities and deformities who long to be able bodied or healthy while others can't appreciate just being alive. Something is mentally wrong with somebody who kills themselves, not physically.

Yeah, I read that too.
A 'conspiracy' that involves the people running a Chinese lab does seem a bit more plausible than all the other conspiracies involving all the people who run just about every country and 99.99% of the scientific and medical world.
I read that a lots of people dismissed it at the beginning because Trump voiced it, and they didn't want to be associated with the orange oaf in any way, shape or form.
