Noj - I'm in agreement on some key things here. And not on some others.
You very quickly went from gender reassignment and sexual identity to oversexualisation. They are two different issues. Lumping onlyfans together with gender reassignment just doesn't wash im sorry.
Kids are way more exposed to adult content online than we were at their age. The pike of mucky magazines hidden in the local 'den' is replaced with millions of sites at their fingertips on smartphones bought and financed by parents. Websites like instagram and tiktok feed this oversexualised online menu with little to no sense of responsibility or effective regulation. And the overwhelming majority of porn content viewed by kids is 'straight' porn.
So it's happening.
And like you, I wish it wasn't.
Part of the role of schools is to address this and open up discussion because knowledge and awareness is important in keeping kids safe. We don't treat this lightly in schools. We have regular training and we are constantly reviewing our approaches. Even in the last few weeks there has been the ofsted report on the shocking numbers of girls who have been subject to some form of sexually inappropriate behaviour. I've Year 10 kids who have created devised exam performancework that highlights the issue and offers real insight for their peers. When I talk about learning from kids, even amid my flippant comments, I am genuinely saying that we can. Because they are living it every day and they can tell us what's really happening and the effect it is having. It's shocking. But putting our heads in the sand and pretending the big bad world isn't there is no good to them. we grew up in what seemed to be simpler times. Stranger danger was maybe as bad as it got. The world has moved on and not in entirely positive ways.
Healthy relationships.... I see plenty of healthy relationships among the students who are gay, gender fluid, and transitioning. Just as I see some very unhealthy ones among the straight kids. The inference that healthy and transitioning can't be the same doesn't fit sorry mate.
Kids are acutely aware of their own sexuality / how they 'identify'. From an early age. So it's important we give them the chance to voice this. Because some families don't offer that opportunity. And some families are hugely grateful for the input of schools in opening up these conversations between parent and child. Having to go through their whole school life and never being able to express how they feel would be so damaging. And as for role models, for those kids who already know they don't 'fit' some outdated idea of 'the norm', just imagine how important it is for them to have role models in the public eye. Or do all role models have to be straight? A gay rugby player. A gender fluid film star. A transitioning athlete. They can all be a positive role model for someone - potentially.
Developmentally fair? Absolutely. Because when handled appropriately it means they can learn about acceptance of people for who they are. That feeling different shouldn't automatically follow on to feeling ashamed.
There so much ignorance as to how it's handled. Look at Wayne's post. Some people actually believe it's as simple as a trip to the doctors to say please chop these off and give me some hormone treatments. As said, I've got year 9 kids who know way more about it than some people on here. Because they're living it.

I still don't think it's acceptable for schools to allow gender reassignment and it's not normal or healthy in any age group, in any circumstance. People get ripped to shreds in the media who are white and trying to identify as black or Asian, and that's just a question of melanin which we are told is irrelevant as we are all the same under our skin. Yet it's ok to ignore nature and remove reproductive organs from your body?
I see that as disrespectful to women, sorry a man can have all the surgery he wants but will never be half a woman. The sexes genuinely are completely different biologically, yet reassignment causes less uproar than race identity and is even celebrated. You can't have a bloody tattoo until you're 18 but you can reassign your gender?? I wanted a Polynesian tattoo at one point, I realised I wasn't Polynesian once I had the money and stubble to start getting inked. Like people I know who had Chinese writing and are now anti China lol.
I'm not implying gay people can't have a healthy relationship or be a role model either, of course not. But you can't have all these labels and claim it's not sexualising kids earlier because those labels only exist to describe what sexual practices you indulge in. Nobody needs to say they are straight or heterosexual, they just are. And once sexually active will be attracted to who they are attracted to, men, women or both. That's natural, probably happens in the animal world.
These are minds that are not fully developed and are easily influenced by peer pressure, people who's life will be changed by decisions schools encouraged them to make before they could legally have sex to begin with. Which is what adult relationships are really about.
I'd have to take my kids out of a school that openly promoted any labelling or changing of gender outside of reality and if either were encouraged to pursue any of it I'd lift my ground scored knuckles off the floor and batter 10 shades of **** out of any individual responsible. Their job is to teach the curriculum not interfere with the healthy reproduction of the human species.
Once people are adults they are able to change their genitalia, but were born as a specific gender because we are the products of reproduction produced to reproduce..... and you will always be that gender regardless of how you maim yourself.
My missus has had to see hormone specialists who have huge waiting lists of people who are genuinely suffering, yet healthy people are allowed to access that system to manipulate themselves beyond what is natural? It's a joke that it's also funded!!! ****ing funded by the government for somebody to change sex! That is more alarming to me than 90% of brexit and covid combined

When my wife was a teenager a boy who was a bit 'different' used to hang around with her and her sisters. He had long hair and would dress in a neutral manner. Weekends and holidays he'd just enjoy being 'one of the girls'. At school he was isolated and miserable as the class weirdo. He threw himself out of a fourth floor window when he was 17.
If that sort of suffering can be avoided by explaining to kids that such people exist, and if they are one of the tiny, tiny minority who feel that way they will get help, it can only be a good thing.

Section 28, which outlawed teaching about being gay, was scrapped in 2000. In 2019 a law was passed which makes teaching about LBGT issues compulsory.
It may well be the parents' job in an ideal world, but as you have pointed out previously, the vast majority of the population are ****s, parents included.

So, five years on from the historic moment that a minority of the British voted to leave the EU on the promise of ‘taking back control' and bringing ‘no downsides, only considerable benefits', ‘millions to the NHS', ‘a better trade deal .. the German car industry will see to that!' blah blah f'kin blah... none of which proved to be true, how come no brexiters have got the hump about it?
