I dont think pushing the west and russia into full blown nuclear war is actually "bottling it". No one wants it, apart from probably you for some strange reason.
I actually think we must be pretty close to the line in actually being drawn into this. I mean lots of our weaponry are killing russians, which Putin can not be happy about, and now the US sending migs over, we are certainly indirectly involved.

I believe that the US plan is to get the Ukrainians to stall for as long as possible so as to get a decent enough amount of arms like Javelin etc and then go at the Russians. The Pentagons plan as always is to arm and fund insurgent forces to try and pick away at the Russians as they've done many times, a shining example of this is what the Americans did in Afghanistan with the proxy forces they assembled.
The Russians I'd suspect are fully aware of the Americans playbook and want this over and done with as quick as possible. From the demands that the Russians have made of the Ukrainian government is for them to become neutral, keep on governing and as the Russians have stated, not make any land grabs. The Russians dealt effectively with the insurgence in Syria (funded and armed by the Americans) and are in the process of eliminating the Azov Brigade in the south and C14 elsewhere, the problem being floods of willing participants from other countries willing to 'give it' to the Russians.
The longer this whole thing goes on for, the worse it will get. Ukraine will become a bloodbath like we've seen in the Middle East and get levelled. Well that's the way I see it anyway.

But this is no surprise from the government who promised to provide refuge for 200,000 Afghans and have still not set up the system

The world's been around a long time and it will be for a lot longer. Plenty of dictators, despot's, ideological rabble rousers and nationalists have trodden the same path as Putin. They all lose in the end. Ripped out of holes in the ground, smashed by opposition forces or dethroned by their own.

The world in the short to long term looses. If you consider the sheer stupidity of these sanctions on Russia, there will be huge consequences, things like fertiliser shortages, raw materials like metals for instance, Russia is a huge power in these regards. They should have all gotten around the table and thrashed this all out and come to an amicable agreement, instead, we've seen a country invaded, nuclear missiles readied, any sadly many lost lives.
Instead of cool heads, The West has literally lost their collective minds, the repercussions of knee-jerk, reflex actions could have catastrophic fallout. Take the stupid words by our ridiculous Defence Secretary for the Russians to react the way they have is off the charts. I was watching something earlier where a defence expert laid out that Russia's forward balistic weapons awareness capability is very low/sketchy, to the point that any launch of any missile could lead to all out nuclear war as the Russian's can't distinguish between missile types. Apparently the US was going to do a missile test in the next few weeks or so and that has been put on hold because of the situation we're in now...however true any of that is.
As for Boris, jesus, where do I start? Actually, I'd go as far as saying we really are run by a bunch of total incompetents, to the point of endangering human existence itself. These people really aren't the great minds that we're lead to believe. For all Boris's bluster and bravado, he seems like an empty suit.
