Doubt very much the drive gear would be titanium, probably an aluminium alloy, they do seem very good for the money and if they last as long as my mates freespool Penn's he uses for smooth hounds and tope they will be an absolute steel.

It wouldn't surprise me if shimano make there reels for less money then penn being such a large company they will make them in such bulk would b cheap as chips,but trust me once penn have made there mark in carp industry the price will rocket,they r just being smart with the 7000 as its a hard seen to break in too... So go in with a cheap good looking product and break through once there in price will,no questions asked fly up!

These penn reels look ok for the money, and they are an established reel company so they should be good.
I would be happy buying them , as I would buying shimano, I wouldnt necessarily think I was being ripped off if I bought shimano reels that cost more.

not necessarily. The affinities have been out for years and price has dropped. Ok, the gold styling put most off and thats been corrected with the black version, but they are still good reels.
When the avocast came out last year everyone said the tackle shops say prices going up in 2013. Still havent. At times its just a form of marketing to make people feel they should buy at these prices.
They do look good value. I dont know why all tackle shops didnt just stick to selling them at 120 as they would sell no problem at that price too

I got rid of my shimano long casts for them and I won't b swapping back that's for sure probly half the weight
i am sure you notice the weight difference (20% lighter?) but they are nowhere near close to half the weight mate. LC are not 1.28kg

I don't suppose anyone knows how limited these limited editions are?
I do fancy a set as a forage into big pits, but I can't see me buying a new set of reels for a while. I may take a look in the new year.

i dont weigh reels mate. I read on here the penns weight was 640g. So if you think they are probably half, you just double it. Simple
and of course no way the LC is double 640g. Nor could the penns be half the real LC weight. That would make them 400g ish id guess off the top of my head, not even remotely close to 640g real weight. I wasnt having a pop, just some peoples exagerations are too far fetched not to comment and we wouldnt want to mislead a youngster
