Don't think the EU are responsible for vaccine roll out. They don't control the health policies of member states You're conflating the issues of vaccine purchasing which is being done by the EU and delivery which is done on a country by country basis.
That said, delivery is contingent on supply. Not sure what's going on, but there appears to be some contractual disagreements between the EU and Astra-Zeneca.

Mal are you one of those people who think we should 'do the right thing' and give some of our vaccines to those EU countries who are struggling?

kind of... but not just helping EU countries - and not just us doing the sharing either
I think we are already seeing the wealthier countries pushing to the front of the queue because they can afford to. it's small picture mindset because unless you are going to completely close borders, the there's little sense in acting in a way that means less wealthy countries can't vaccinate.
COVAX as a regulatory idea makes sense to me, but the UK - and others - bypassed their system and ordered in bulk direct from manufacturers
and of course - in all ways I think that the more fortunate should look to help the less fortunate. apparently that makes me a snowflake - although I'd argue that crying that you can't go fishing at night is far more flakey...

The UK vaccine rollout is indeed miles better than the EU effort, which is great but not a result of leaving the EU. Any member state could have granted unilateral authorisation for the vaccines fast, like the UK did, but they decided to stick with EMA licensing. Member states can make their own decisions when faced with a public health crisis.
What about wealthy countries paying for the vaccine for their ex-colonies - the countries which they got rich from exploiting years ago? That'd be a nice gesture, wouldn't it?

given the approach of current government - cutting our foreign aid commitment / brexit / pretty much anything that Priti Patel suggests... - helping other countries isn't likely to be high on the agenda
in a slightly related theme, the North West has been told that because we've been more effective in vaccinating, we'll get less supply in the next batch...

Anyone else noticed that everything was “Germany this, France that, Spain did this...” all of last year but now we have left proper it's all “EU figures and EU response”
Narrative to the public is all about brexit right now. Hence the attempts to convince the masses that the entire rollout is EU determined and not just the bulk buying of the vaccine. Plenty can't see through the media though sadly

I think there's so much cross border movement between mainland EU member states that most countries see it as essential that they and their neighbours get vaccinated. Going it alone would only work if a country completely cut itself off.

How long does it take the truth to come out in the UK , for Ricky Tomlinson it looks like it could be this week which would equate to nearly 50 years !

At last , a bit of the truth came out on the news tonight about the Alex Salmon case / witch hunt , and Nicola Sturgeon is up to her neck in it !
i was privy to the truth regarding this case and mentioned it here via Craig Murrays website , around 3 months ago ! as i have stated previously journalism is under threat in the UK ,they are now trying to imprison Craig Murray , citing a law , that has never been used before in this country !
