Water is still quite cold, so the fish aren't showing much, just a few rolling out in the middle. Nothing seen in the shallows yet, but things might change after the weekend with the warm weather forecast. Last week's 36.12 is the best since 01April to date, but there was a couple of 20lb+ fish out yesterday along with some of the 10-20lb youngsters that show in numbers as the summer progresses. TBH I think it really needs to warm up before they start shifting around, but don't expect bagging lake-style action from this place; they're a bit harder to tempt than that!

warm weather did the trick - fish showing and 10 fish over 20lb out of VW, up to 28lb. Obelisk gave up 4 over 20 with an old mirror the best at 28.4 off the top with a mixer. Nice to see them on the feed once again.

Just out of interest what percentage of carp being caught from VW are 20's? And what percentage are commons?
Interested to compare what is getting caught to what we used to catch a few years ago.

We did too. I think I posted previously that we were told that 600 mirrors were stocked in about 8 years ago (?) I am sure the bigger fish being caught now are mostly from that stocking. My friend caught a couple at about 8lb and they were pretty looking fish, we said at the time that if you were a fish VW was a lovely place to be stocked into!

Things have been moving forward nice and steady - even the fish are playing ball, including the ancient old mirrors in Obelisk. We're now down to our last potential couple of vacancies, after which we'll prepare a waitlist, so if anyone is reading and wants to apply, better be quick - its first come, first served. Thanks.

Hi Andy, I have to say the ancient old.mirrors you refuer to in the obelisk are a fairly recent thing . When we used to fish it there was no mirrors at all in the lake , only commons in there , quite a wild strain , of which the biggest was around 26 to 28 lbs , it was caught by Tony Jonson and there used to be a picture of it on the wall in Davies angling in Staines .
