I have my annual holiday fishing trip coming up and thought I would try to cut down the amount of gear I take by making rigs in advance and just taking the rig boxes and leaving the rest at home. I just feel I may need something I haven't made. How nany rigs is enough for a weeks fishing? Does anyone else have the feeling they need to take everything " just in case". ? How about a fortnight in France.
What about using the multi rig? Tie up 3 and just change the hooks or add/remove shot as required.

Not used a multi rig and that eould require a leap of faith too far. I'll tie up a couple and use on one rod. I've always thought of the multi rig as a pop up rig, and I'm not expecting to use pop ups, unless I have to fish a choddy area.

I like the rig that Mike Holly showed on an ESP video,super easy to tie and can change the hook in seconds.The boom section lasts for ages too

I can fit everything terminal tackle wise into a small aqua pouch, rig tools lighter small 16 compartment Korda box for swivels beads etc, few different hook links and a couple spare spools of leadcore, so that comes everywhere with me, as for tying rigs il normally have 3 rigs ready to go and then tie up a few spares once everything is set up

I will do that on my regular lake for a 24 hours but
A week. I'm taking the full tackle box and bit and bobs that I haven't used

the real truth is you could fit couple of packs hooks 20 swivels crimp pliers and crimps spool of boom spool of hook link and all the bits needed in to a very small bag/box

I have over the years tried several times to pre tie rigs. And I just end up never using them. There's always some small tweak I decide I need to make, or want a fresh rig. Or, especially on a new lake, want something totally different.
All the components to make 10+ different rigs could fit into a Box a quarter of the size of the size of a box that would hold pre tied rigs.

Yup. I never end up using the rigs I have ready.
Tbh most of the ones I have I either bought pre-made or I made early on in my rig-making days and they're just not what I'd use today (99% of the time it's going to be a stiff hinged rig with a tungsten bead). At some point I really should just take apart all my rigs that aren't that for bits, and making up some fresh ones that I would actually use, but that seems like more hassle than it's worth!

You're fishing must be so easy, same rig, same bait, just cast it out. I wish I could get my head into that space. Maybe I will next trip. Unless I blank. Then it's doubts all round again. To be fair I don't blank very often. Unless all the swims are taken and I can't get on fish.

i used to use loads of different things, none of them really worked enough for me to say it was worth chopping and changing all the time, add to that, when chopping and changing rigs and bait all the time, couldnt get a true pattern of what was going on to gain accurate results and info.
So, i chose a bait, a simple effective rig on all 3 rods, sometimes 4 rods in France and sat on my hands and waited to get a true picture.
since then, ive never changed.
In truth, i think there's far too much stuff around these days that will only baffle ones brains and hamper results.
i use two rigs.
Multirig.
Chod if i need too.
