In my fishing currently I don't use a bait boat however for an upcoming France trip in October it may be essential due to the lake we are fishing.
As it is only going to be used for a week, does anybody have any recommendations for a budget boat I can look at, the alternative was to rent one for a week but most of the places that offer rental seem to be down south and i am in the northwest.

Boatman boats will do the job no problem

I bought a boatman actor plus to see how i got on before i bought an expensive boat and used it for the first time at the week end and its brilliant for the money. It did everything i wanted so might save myself £1600 on getting an expensive one. I had my first france trip in april and 3 of the lads i went with had boatmans and all of them were excellent which is why i bought one.

Get the plus one with the one large hopper. I think they all have the compass fitted now.

Compass versions faaar superior to the original models in terms of straightline sailing - no messing about with yaw buttons / compensating with the joystick etc

Has anybody used the normal boatman actor, not the actor plus?
I know somebody who is looking to get rid of these but not sure if its any good.
Whichever boat I end up buying will only be used for a week in France, fishing to an island thats out of reach by casting.

Nd2 boat is a very good boat aswell and isn't that much either, my dad had a boatman and personally find them very cheaply made, I wouldn't buy one myself from what I've seen

The nd2 is also very cheaply made. If anything the boatman is better made than the nd. The nd has plastic hoppers that you have to manually close by hand and plastic props. The actor plus has metal props and motorised stainless hoppers that can be closed by the remote and its also £150 cheaper. Going from all the negative feedback on the nd baitboat page on facebook there not very reliable either and there customer service is crap going off peoples feedback.

Go for the actor plus with compass. The other model is very small and the hoppers are tiny.

Just don't rely on the Actor Plus Gps if fishing near islands etc its hit and miss and I understand that they have a bit of leeway but mine cant be quite out at times so a lot of the time i have to steer it out manually and they do struggle in choppy water.

Or near buildings.
So it's not surprising that it struggles to give a good position in that situation.
Unfortunately there can be a lack of understanding with using GPS units in general and not just bait boats.
There are also things that you can do to improve your marking of a waypoint .
But near an island with trees without going into checking satellite positions your generally going to struggle unless you're lucky with how the available satellite constellation is at the time your using your GPS receiver.
It's part of the reason when using a deeper that you have to retrieve it slowly to give a good position update .
