How do i make it so i can drop the lead when reeling in? Im fishing mega distance woth a bait boat in a mega weedy lake, possibly 350-400 yds. Im having to fish 10oz leads and reeling in is almost impossible. How an i drop the lead every time when reeling in yet still keep a very tight line?
You boat them out there , you boat them back in . No unnecessary lost leads and a big tick in the personal responsibility box . Nevertheless the circumstances you described smack of fish at any cost.

IF its almost impossible to wind a lead in how would you land carp?
You say you are dropping rigs with a bait boat, i could maybe understand if you were using a proper boat and could land fish from it and as previous post from ddw says retrieve end tackle with a boat

This mirrors my thoughts - if you can't get a relatively small and streamlined lead through then how would you get a decent fish back?
The only time I can think this would be possible is in very low lying weed....?

Correct weed is low, its very shallow untill you get to the deep part, cant use a real boat only a bait boat, can only fish from the shallow end of pake and bait boat them out, landing a fish is fine as the lead is off and the fish isnt on the deck, however trying to reel in a 10oz lead is a differnt story!

Agree with this, can't really see the need for a 10oz lead unless you are fishing a river or there are massive undertow problems...
....the only way you are going to possibly drop it on retrieval is by tying it on with a "rotten bottom" so a light 2lb mono that snaps as soon as it hits the weed, well in theory anyway!

I am totally against the dropping of leads. If your fishing circumstances make you think you need to then you should not be fishing there.
When fishing weedy lakes i will use inline leads like most of us did before the Korda boys started advertising systems for dropping leads and lining their pockets.
I dread to think of the quantity of lead in busy lakes and what future disaster this can lead to our fisheries.
How can we justify deliberately polluting our fisheries we care about with dumping lead in the water. As my brother a sea angler said after seeing the Korda films you may as well chuck your old car battery in the lake as well.

The lake is very exposed, is very windy, the floating weed and massi e undertow and the need to have very tight linesis dragging anything under 10oz

Got sorted, moved to braid, fox drop off running rig, can strike out of it.

Yes it was a Jim Gibbinson article that put me onto inline leads for weedy waters.
