Being a Tempest noob (have been using a standard sized V2 Bivvy this season and quite like it) looking for a utility front / pref social cap so I can ditch the 2man that's rarely used these days . .
Prefer the newer Tempest Advanced 100 Social Cap to the original V2 Utility as its got side access and an integrated skull cap - will it fit the bivvy and more importantly will the V2 zipped infil front zip into the front of the social cap?

Cyprinus do a range of social wraps/utility fronts that will fit your tempest and probably save you a bit of money as well...

The 100 social cap won't fit the V2, the V2 is wider and taller than the 100.
Be careful if you go down the Cyprinus route, a lot of what they say fits the V2 doesn't actually fit it at all...

Weirdly I have an Advanced 100 skull cap on the V2 (didnt realise when I bought it 2nd hand) however it fits perfectly hence the assumption - can pick up a V2 utility cap for not a lot but will cost £80 per zipped side access door to convert via Andy Army which is more expensive than a new 100 social!

Yep the Skull Cap fits but the social cap doesn't, too short at the sides.

Bum - don't really want to ditch everything / add expense for the smaller 100 - looks like a pimped V2 Utility is the only solution thanks for advice - cheers

Can the skull cap be fitted in tandem with the Utility? Sure I've read / seen this done somewhere unless I dreamt it?

Don't see how it can be done mate for 2 reasons..., the utility front clips onto the frame near the block which couldn't be done if the Skull Cap was fitted and secondly the central tensioning pole of the utility fits into the front of the bivvy which again you couldn't do if the Skull Cap was fitted.

Yes the skull cap can be used with the ultility front if you get the skull cap modified Army Andy has done a few of them

They should just make a bigger skullcap with storm pole adaptors on the end to support the peak.The skullcaps are good for extra shade inside the bivvy but pretty useless at keeping out the elements as a peak is too small

Was going to send it to Andy anyway to stick 2x zipped side access 'doors' with clips to roll them up and convert it into a social - knew I wasnt going mad - Chris what does Andy do exactly with the skull cap - is it a permanent bodge or can you still use the skull cap independently?
Re the skullcap on both this and my Pioneer 150 - totally agree with you Tony; total waste of time in terms of rain protection; no difference to my Ultralite which has a skull cap without a peak / mini arms and is therefore easier to leave on etc - you still have to fish letterbox style with either in driving rain . . .

From seeing the pictures on his Facebook page Army Andy bivvy repairs he adds zip on the skull cap for you to be able to put the poles through and clips through that clip onto the tempest frame and yes can still use the skull independently

Thanks Chris - just messaged Andy re zipped Skull cap conversion so may as well get this done as well
New Tempest 100 Bivvy is too low - why they didnt keep to V2 sizes I've no idea - presumably to stop product cross over!

I hadn't seen the Army Andy MOD but what I don't get is how does the Utility front attach to the front of the bivvy, (centre pole) if the skull cap is in there...or do you just not bother with the centre pole on the Utility?

From what I understand you either just leave the central skull cap peak support arm flapping down / resting adjacent to the centre pole or maybe just fold all 3 back on themselves? The utility centre pole def needs to be located in the central skull cap peak slot - the other two brace against the forward arms of the bivvy and the front arch pole of the utility.
Once I get the zips on the skull cap fitted I'll let you know!
