Snapped my jag hook file and just about to order another but is there any better cheaper alternatives without the carp tax

Never really understood this fad of sharpening hooks to the extremes they are now. The advice is to file off the backbone of the point, which doesn't make any sense at all, because, the point loses all its strength; and that's the business end of the hook.
There's a lot of evidence building up, which shows these sharpened hooks are leaving shards of metal behind in carp's mouths. This means that the wound in their mouths aren't getting the chance to heal properly, resulting in infection.
I totally understand touching up the hook point to regain its sharpness after catching a fish, but filing its strength away is crazy.
But, to each their own

From what I understand, you can use a jewellers file which is the same as a JAG file and a lot cheaper but I cannot remember what size of file.
Myself, I use a fine nail file, an emery board and a diamond file from Supadrug, about a £1 each for just giving a hook a quick touch up. But they are about the least used things in my tackle box.

It's well documented that if a hook is left in a fish's mouth, that infection will start. Fisheries are so paranoid about infection these days, that one of the rules imposed almost everywhere now is, an angler must use propolis, or some other similar product.
There are so many anglers, who've been using sharpened hooks and noticing that the end of the point is missing from the hook.
Where could that missing piece be?

Hook points turn over I've never seen a hook point snap off ? Have you watched Adam penning hook sharping- he basically said that points snapping of etc is a load of balls.

Yeah. Not my own hooks obviously, because I've never used sharpened hooks. Other anglers have shown me. It's happened with hand sharpened Gardner, ESP and those new Korda ones.
They're just not strong enough
