Got that dreaded feeling our beloved pooch who sadly won't be with us for much longer. She had lungworm 3 years ago and despite the damage it has left behind she still soldiers on regardless. However I see small pieces of decline and myself and family are worried sick at the thought of losing her and the grieving process that it brings.

I've read on here about how they've sadly lost their dog/animal and whilst I fully understand the grieving process I hope that the loss has become easier.

Dogs are truly amazing creatures.

Posting with many many tears.

Dogs give unconditional love and that is great but unfortunately their life span is shorter than ours and it is a fact that usually you have to say goodbye rather than the other way around.

All you can do is do your best for them and give them a good life.

What i find really sad is people who take their dogs to the vet for their last visit then say "i couldn't be there when it happened!" Thats when they dog needs you most and my Mrs has cuddled our last pooch whilst it happened, its not about you at that time its about them.

Time will heal and the memories will still be there

The dog I had previous to the one I have now didn't make it from an operation ‘well made it but didn't recover and had to be put to sleep' so I couldn't be there. The dog before her I held him in my arms whilst he had the injection to end his suffering and it broke our hearts. Will hold and be there for my current dog too as I've always said she'll need us at that moment. They certainly are amazing loving unconditional animals.

It's nasty mate, but it does get easier in time. I lost my boy 4 years ago next month to cancer, he battled it for almost a year and was his usual self right up until the day he went . I sat in with him until the end and although the sight of him laying afterwards haunts me still I wouldn't have had it any other way than to be there with him. Still to this day I can't bring it upon myself to get another, but I do now look after friends dogs for them so I do get the interaction with them dog lovers need.

Feel sorry in hearing that mate.....Same as you say it does get easier but unfortunately it's the grieving one has to go through. That's great that you look after friends dogs as they truly are remarkable animals.

I lost mine last year, I'm not gonna beat around the bush, it's one of the most hardest things I've had to endure, they are essentially family. Over time it does get easier, and you start remembering the fun times

They certainly are family mate. Even though being through it before i'm dreading when that time actually arrives.

I hear of people that have had their dog stolen or it has got out of the garden never to be seen again and to be honest that's something I could never get over. Fortunately I like to think that we've provided such a loving and caring home.

I always say the best and least you can do for a much loved dog is to be there for them at the end..just hope I can for my Casper,a wonderful friend,we go all over the moors and valleys together,..fishing,lol..well,soon as he sees water ,any water, all that training goes out the window..

I had a dog, called Ivan,an German Shepherd, his stance and looks were amazing ,a true loyal dog...until he was murdered, yes murdered..It took 25 yrs before I could face getting another..

Anyone who says 'oh its only a dog, well they are part of your life and family..

All these poor lockdown dogs ,unwanted,shame...

OMG mate sorry to hear that......

Don't know about yourself but I know I'd regret it if I wasn't there for my special little girl Nikka.

Put it this way..

God paid back that debt for sure..!!

That dog was outstanding,he never wore a collar, or used a lead, went everywhere with me,other than college..
