Just a quick question. I've got a seat ibiza diesel this. Was having problems with it going into limp mode. I took it into the garage. Was told it was the egr valve sticking and needs to be replaced. And thay said it will cost around £700 all in. Its got a v.w engine in it and it's ment to be a common problem with them. Has anyone else had this problem with there car and was it a cheap fix?

Better off joining a Seat or VW forum. They will tell you if it can be removed and cleaned and whether or not it is a hard or easy job.

Yep,
Not a VW but another car £700 ish for a new valve
Swear blind mine ****ed up when i added some fuel cleaner

No I don't have a code for it. It's a 1.6 tdi diesel.

My son has a Skoda fabia 1.2tdi and the egr is located at the back of engine near the bottom and a good 5 hour job to replace. I suspect yours is similar therefore 700 all in is probably a decent price. Have you been quoted from a main dealer or independant garage.

The quote is from a private garage I use for m.o.t and service and so on. Usually good on there prices. And yes thay told me it's at the back of the engine. Thay recon got to take exhaust of paet of prop sharft and so on thay told me its about a 5 hour job
Replaced mine (myself) on a Skoda superb 2ltr Tdi, (70'000 miles approx) cost approx £420 for the valve, gaskets etc and coolant from Tps (genuine parts)
If it's the same and bolts along the backside of the engine block it is a fiddle to do.
As said, drivers side drive shaft out, exhaust disconnected and moved to one side.
Turbo feed/return pipes to come off just to make access to the valve
So £700 does seem a lot but not really considering cost and time to do it

Unfortunately that price is very fair.
Heard of folk being quoted up to £1600 for a skoda superb at Dealers
