I have a set of freespirit 13ft hi-S ives which I have matched to Daiwa ISO 5000's.
My question is do you think they would match better with a 14000 Ultegra xtd or Penn affinity 7000's for distance?

Don't get 1400 xtd they are terrible I changed iso myself to xtd but didn't keep them long then to basia which I like but iso still up there with anything and wish I never sold them.

With normal 12lb line the iso will cast just as far as any other reel. You only really notice a slight difference in distance when you start using thicker line but even then its not very much. I could cast the same distance with my castizms as i could with my black tech mags.

Xtd's are garbage but going from an iso to an xtd to a basia is hardly fair on the poor little xtd is it?

Ive never found a reel to better the iso and ive had most of them. The iso are still the best reel ive owned. I foolishly gave mine to my mate for free when i packed in carp fishing which im regretting as im thinking of starting up again.

Much better reels out there for distance work , I've had a set , the retrieve rate is pathetic , get yourself something with a larger spool and decent retrieval rate
