you could use a thicker braid......probably 40lb whiplash or another
when i use a spomb to hit those distances i use 65lb whiplash leader and 20lb(.06) mainline
why dont you want to use a leader out of interest

Whether you use a leader or not I reckon the best braid is an 8 carrier one like Daiwa J Braid x8, casts better and doesn't need constantly wetting like the 4 carrier braids

Sufix 832 8 strand braid is excellent.
I just use 50lb whiplash straight through and never had any problems fishing at range with a medium/ large spomb

I have found the Gardner kinetic spod braid very good, although to be honest I would personally, still use a leader when fishing at that sort of range.
It's a thicker braid think it's.30mm

Any reason you don't want to use a leader? A 2 rod length leader (when ready to cast will have the Spomb at the spigot & 2-3 turns round the spool itself) is more than enough to minimise crack off's on the cast ( unless you somehow still frap up). Using a thinner braid straight through is asking for crack off's tbh & stepping up to a thicker diameter will lower casting distance due to the increased diameter (& subsequent weight of the braid itself when wet).

I usually use 15lb mono to a 50lb leader for spodding and leading around. A lake I'm fishing at the moment has some proper thick clumps of weed about where if you are in them you can break off with a lead and 15lb trying to free it

I use the 20lb but with a 50lb leader, if you want straight through I'm sure the 40lb would be adequate, just look at diameters and go by that rather than breaking strains
Blimey if you have been leading about with mono it's going to be a whole new world when you start doing it with braid

I use the 8strand j braid, I want to say 50lb but I don't think they do 50lb, so probably the 58lb version. I can't see it limiting your distance if your hitting that with 15lb mono. I only really use that heavy version to cope with the weed rake

I called a couple of shops today to see what they have in, they have the J braid, apparently the 8 strand has a more round profile. Sounds better?
I've used braid before Chuffy. Ditched the marker rod. Over the last year I've just been using mono, no problems counting the lead down, not as sensitive as braid but still get a decent feel for the bottom. Zero problems with mono when spombing.
J braid is one, will have a look at some tomorrow

Cheers Duggs, think they do something in the 30lb range which may be OK. Would rather get some genuine feedback from users on here rather than somebody trying to flog me something that they have in stock
