Been fishing a new water what requires distance casting in some pegs so I need a shock leader and its a bit different from having tight lines with fluorocarbon with leaders like whiplash I guess they stick out massively in clear water? Also I hear whiplash floats
My own theory on lines that stick out is that it's a good thing in certain circumstances as fish can avoid the line and just go about their business, whereas if you've got a near invisible line that they bump into, they're more likely to spook.
I do think that this theory is dependent on how pressured the water is i.e tight highly visible lines on a pressured water they're likely to avoid your spot.
I don't know if anglers are still doing it, sometime ago there was a phase where anglers were fishing with bright coloured fluro lines and where still catching.
I've fished slack and tight lines and have never noticed much difference. I do like tight lines for the indication, you know, fish bumping into your lines where they're on your spot feeding. At the moment, the spot that I've been working for some time now, I fish with ultra tight lines due to the heavy weed and I'm still catching consistently.

It all depends really. I'm using 20lb touchdown straight through due to heavy weed which I was pumping out a 3oz lead to over 100yds which surprised me. If there's very little to no weed I'll use 15lb Syncro XT straight through without a leader which should be able to pump a 4oz lead to 140yds, any further then I'll put on a cut down on the slim and thick end a touchdown leader giving it the beans.
I won't fish with braid as a leader as great as it is or braided mainline down to me thinking that it's a possible death trap waiting to happen should anything part with a fish on. I've said it before on here, get a fistful of braid and throw it in the edge, it's like a bird's nest and looks deadly the me, maybe others will have a different opinion.

Not from what other anglers on my syndicate say. Also the line parts well below it's stated breaking strain. Just take a look at the tackle box tests and see for yourself.
I'd go with gardner syncro non loaded or gold label lines as they break above the stated breaking strain and don't chaff up as much as the fox lines.

Makes me laugh all this camouflage stuff. We spend a fortune on matching the lake bed, only to stick an 15mm "pineapple" pop up 2inches on a gravel spot.........and still catch

Any of them really. Take your pick. A mate of mine raves about pro gold. I like the Pro distance and pro tough. The guy at Birmingham angling says pro distance has got the better breaking strain out of the range. I can't say how true that is as I've not tested them all side by side.
All of this is very personal as we all have our own preferences and different needs. From what I've noticed, I don't think you can go far wrong with any of the gold label brand with their different uses for certain situations.
