looking for a decent brolly system and am looking for recommendations

I ordered the wychwood mhr HD mk2 sysyem which arrived with many manufacturing defects which was replaced with another with the exact same problems. Although I loved the concept of the mhr HD system, receiving 2 faulty systems im now looking for something which is of decent quality and simular spec. Tia

Im shocked to read this

as they are known for some of if not the best brollys around with their 5 year warrante be interested in a bit more detail of these manufacturing defects please ?
I have owned a Wychwood MHR brolly and it was amazing quality

I was shocked to see it tbh especially on the replacement i was sent which was in a worse state than the first.

The first mhr hd mk2 brolly system had ladders in every single fly mesh panel which would eventually rip/turn into holes so wasn't going to entertain that after paying £269. Contacted Wychwood who denied it was a manufacturing defect stating they had never seen it before and could not help me and advised to send it back and ask for a replacement, which I did. The 2nd one turned up with the exact same problem and also had a big white mark on the top and white writing on at least 2 of the panels. I'm not sure who's in charge of quality control or how either made it out of the factory but Wychwood again were not interested so I returned the 2nd one for a refund. As for the Wychwood 5 year warranty I'm not sure you'd get anywhere with them. I will add pics ASAP so you can see what I mean

So now I'm looking for a simular brolly system as, like I say the actual concept,size,weight,headroom etc was just what I was looking for

Interesting thanks and of course like every mortal thing that massed produced there will be a percentage of problems hopefully they will sort this out
as far as customer service goes I accidentally kicked the blocking plug into the river contacted them and was sent a new one FOC next day Im confident there warrante is fine

Yes thats what I thought but to get 2 in the same state and wychwood showing no interest and denying its a manufacturing issue has put me off purchasing their products in the future even with a 5 year warrenty

Like Gerry I'm shocked at your experience as I have had nothing but positive experiences with Wychwood over the years but if I was in your shoes would equally avoid (like I avoid Nash products for similar reasons) . Alternatives you can look at will be the ESP, the Tempest brolly (which I switched to from Wychwood) or the Sonik system. You can always look at Cyprinus but they are getting more expensive and lack stock based on some reports I see

i had a couple of MK1 HDMRs which were a bit iffy which was a shame
as they were the closest material i have found which was near to what the green wavelok material was.

i didnt want a mk2 with a vent (a vent on a brolly REALLY ?)

so ended up with a hide which had for 2 seasons - still watertight but the paint is flaking in places, they have obvs revised the internal rope attachment for the poles as mine are not coated but i have seen one which brought a few months ago where they have coated them.

i love the look of traditional type brollies but i wasnt going to pay thru the nose for one from Aqua etc

Amazing that you find it strange ?

as lots of people including me ENJOY the real benefit of the breeze that is possible with an open fronted brolly and the rear vents open it can be sooo much cooler with a breeze
OF COURSE if you have never used one with vents you will never know ?

as the saying goes ignorance is bliss
(not saying your ignorant of course ) just those that know know big smile

im sure there are benefits.

for me its another area of stitching that could leak. i like to keep things simple and robust.
and i understand that vents dont leak its just my feeling on the matter

if i could get a waveloc id have one

or the hide frame with a beefer material at a push

I've got an original steadfast wave lock in the garage that I've had since around 1986,think I last used it in about 1991/2
not sure if I'd still use it but it seems to still be watertight etc, weighs a ton mind.

to my shame. i left one out in the garden. in the corner, under a tree by the BBQ. eventually it rotted.
20 years old at least.
