Had a message from our group organiser today, to the effect that the french venue we were booked on for a week starting 4th July, has now confirmed no refunds, no moving of, or alternative dates will be offered for all bookings with effect from July 1st, as they are, in their opinion open, and we have to deal with UK domestic restrictions regardless, this seems a massive change of stance from the fairly flexible way in which most venues seem to have looked after their customers.

I completely appreciate that contractually they are not obliged to (under UK law), however it is mightily frustrating them taking this position when 2 of the group (myself included live in Wales), which we understand now will still be under the 5 mile 'stay local' laws until at least July 10th, so legally could not travel. Given the potential 14 day quarantine upon returning, the 5 mile radius, which is no-one's fault, we face the dilemma of breaking the law or forfeiting our trip. I cannot afford even a caution with my job.

Having saved, booked time from work, ordered and paid for bait, bought lifejackets, 4th rod set ups, marker poles etc - I'm absolutely gutted!!!!

Not going to name them as yet, whilst there is still a hope of some 'middle ground' being found, but we are not optimistic.

If they are open and you unfortunately can't get there I suppose you can't blame the venue.....blame your government.

Blame? Why does this have to be about blame?..

This is about us hoping to find some mutually beneficial 'middle ground' as so many other fisheries in ' your' country seem to have been able to do so well.

There is something in consumer legislation that relates to what is known as frustrated contracts, where its not the fault of either party. I read this in the guardian a few weeks ago and it was written by a legal bod who works in that particular area. He also said that EU law may give some protection, even if a contract is made with a foreign vendor. The article related to travel based/ holiday issues and seemed to suggest a full refund should be made.
May not be a good example, but if you buy tix for a gig that is cancelled, you still get a refund because the contract can't be fulfilled. Could be worth checking out if they aren't prepared to move.

Ok, the point still stands tho. It's no ones fault which means the contract is still fustrated. And the relevant legislation suggests there should be a refund, according to that article. Whether one is given is one for the lawyers....

Terms and condition are illegal and count for nothing when they say no refund given If you are not allowed to trave and l it's not your fault .The trip expert on BBC said so last week they can write what they like but they are breaking the law not giving you a refund .

Have a look at some of the advice websites like Money Saving Expert. Remember you have booked the equivalent of an accomodation only holiday not a package. I suspect you are not covered by the package holiday type regulations for travel disruption and will have to fall back on the terms and conditions of the booking.

Because French fisheries are allowed to be open, I suspect you will now be able to claim on your travel insurance. I agree with a few points on this post, fisheries can't continue to just re arrange holidays for clients. This may be a holiday to you, but it is just a holiday. To many of these fisheries it is their livelihood. It's an unfortunate set of circumstances but you should probably go to your insurance company now

I would travel, 5 mile limit is simply ridiculous after the demonic cummings episode, if this is all that is stopping you then hopefully by then it will be lifted inline with England. As for 'quarantine', whoever thought that could possibly last is misinformed; it was purely the governments last chance to implement a rule to save their skin when the **** hits the fan, which won't make any difference whatsoever now anyway. It will get dropped by the customary backtracking in the next 14 days.
