Morning all
Just got some Coppens coarse and high oil pellets from fishing Bait world!

But after some 2mm pellets that are better for bags etc

Bags I got worked out 36,99 posted in 6mm and 4mm High oil but can anyone recommend better pellets by the sack please !!

Don t mind paying more for better stuff ie halibut etc

Many thanks

James

Skrettings and coppens do a 2.3/2.5mm trout/halibut pellet in 25kg sacks. I always found my he carp pellets to be more productive though.

I much prefer skrettings. The coppens ones, especially the 2.3mm just weren't quite right when I had them last. Found a local feed place that done us a deal for 35 quid a bag on the skrettings as I've ordered 7 bags.

OK, so this is related to Catfish in Mequinenza, but we were fishing Coppens and Skrettings pellets side by side on our rods and out of 40 Cats, 38 came on the Skrettings pellets. The rod positions were swapped around and all of the rigs were the same.

I think the Skrettings pellets are far superior, but I am quite happy feeding Coppens products to my koi.

Having been a former professional fish farmer, we always used Skretting. Having fed literally tons of the stuff over the years I've got to say it was always pretty consistent in quality

Does pellet go off? How long can it be stored?

Like everything, it all depends on how it's stored. Keep it in cool, dry conditions and it will last months no problems at all. Get it damp and it's buggered

Oh and be careful, high oil trout pellet can "sweat" if left in direct sunlight which again renders it useless

Pellet usually has a 6 month best before date, storage is best in a cool dark place in an air-tight container.

Always empty my sacks into big paint buckets. When Travis used to do the double sized ones. Got around a dozen of them for different things in the garage. Saves the pellets from mice too.

I have always use skets match fishing tbh just found Coppens easier to get hold of and I will use 25kg bag in match fishing over 4 months fishing shallow easy!

But as son fishes too will be used lol

The high oil Coppens seam ok ish got 4mm but don t think there as good as stuff had years ago for sure!

I'm lucky as leave my bait in my Big garage and nice and cool while fishing kit in very secure building 👌

I remember making up 150 pva bags for a match on bomb and surprising how quick go through them🤔

I have load buckets from the Fast grout use on patios for business so have emptied all them into them already 👍

If anyone sees any good deals on Skets please send it on here please!

Cheers James

Real halibut pellets ar not available and have not been for about 10 years ,Most were made in the Burgus Plant in Northern spain ,the one we purchased from Skets came from there ,so as the plant would not supply to the angling trade in Spain at that ( about 16 or 17 years ago) made in spain sent to England and taken back to the Ebro !

When the spanish caught on after some one down there ordered 20 tonnes of the 22mm Halibut pellets the plant manager realised that no one in the fishing game checked quality so so he started making a much cheaper lower quality version ,and refused to supply the proper fish farm quality pellets.

A couple of years later this was rolled out in the UK and unless you know a proper Halibut farmer you wont be able to get real halibut pellets.
The problem is to use standard ingredients to make a pellet of 48% protein and some were the low 50's % this will have be done I think with hydrolised fish meal .
So most or all halibut pellets sold to the angling trade are not really halibut pellets but cheap BLACK pellets and because they are black they are Halibut pellets ,now the real halibut pellets to those who have never seen them are a dark brown colour not black.they were also very oily like you could pour oil out of the sack when all the pellets were used up.

So in conclusion if you want a quality pellet you need to buy one which is not made for fishing but made for fish farming where the quality is checked all the time ,by the factory and the fish farmers who if the fish do not grow properly will go and buy another brand.
What are the options ?
Trout pellets or Salmon pellets, both quality controlled and under constant review by professional users.

I wonder if you ever smelt Halibut pellets which were really made for feeding Halibut ? As these have not been available for 10 years or more and they had a very distinct smell ,the Fish oil they used at the Burgos plant in Spain had a very distinctive smell ,the like of which I have not smelt since.
Are you sure?
