After reading a post on here recently it made me realise just how different people are in what they are looking for in a bedchair
maybe even people in different age groups want different things in a bedchair ?
20 years ago I never had any problems sleeping on a soft or hard bed at home but then as I got older I started waking up with a back ache eventually after trying different mattress I found a firm orthopaedic one fixed the problem
but then with fishing I was having problems ? admittedly I was doing lots of 7 and 14 day sessions in those days and after 48 hours taking pain killers for back ache
the answer came after buying the original flatliner bedchair and christened it with a 22 night fishing trip with zero problems
then later I changed it to the Trakker ELS Levelite when that came out again no problems and that one being even firmer and was better for sitting on
and I of course realised you have to use a bedchair buddy or its a fast way of getting bedchair back ! caused by the bedchair sagging and tilting you backwards and you then compensate by leaning forward hence back pain after a short while
and now getting older alright **** it got older ! lol
I needed to cut down on weight and with river fishing go me a 50" brolly and bought a Nash Scope Air Lite Bed tried sleeping on it at home for 1 night it nearly crippled me !! it was way to soft for me or my weight
I now have the best solution FOR ME !
I have my beloved ELS Levelite for when I want to do more than 3 nights
the rest of the time I bought a 2019 Wychwood tactical X Compact bedchair this I love its lovely and firm has adjustable lumbar support and so far not had to tighten the elastics as yet and have slept with zero back ache problems it feels lovely and firm just like my ELS
my only criticism just like all the Compact bedchairs there is not a lot of height adjustment as they are low
I also now use a SIM (self inflating mattress ) I bought this purely for thermal properties after getting a cold back this cured that perfectly AND !!!!!! SHOCK AMAZEMENT I found my comfort level went up ? the trick I found was its important not to inflate it too much the air needs to move around or its not supporting you correctly my mate bought one and said to be honest Gerry I think I have wasted money its **** ! I could not understand this until he told me he blew it up ! I then persuaded him to let me let half the air out next morning he came round big smile on his ugly gob and said Gerry I take it all back its the nuts !!

Agree on the bed chair buddy, makes a real difference given how long you can spend sat on the side of the bed. I've also taken to zip tying the mattress to the frame in a few places. Cuts out some of the sag/spring and for me at least makes it more comfortable.

My backaches stopped when I brought a bedchair buddy ,
Sunk and slumped on a bedchair is not good for the back , neither is silly low doors 🙄😈

Unless they changed the Tactical bed chairs drastically from the previous version to the X, it is probably the WORST bedchair I have ever spent a night on for comfort - & I suffer big style with spinal problems having MS. The weight is the only good thing about it.
Always used a bedchair buddy (still using my original Nash one from donkeys years ago as well as a wider adjustable Trakker one when wife's comes with me)
Not as if I am heavy either (6' & 76KG).
Out of the 50+ actual angling bedchairs I have paid for & got rid of over the past 30 or so years since the original Fox KM bedchair was released, the only one that has remained comfortable is the Solar C-Tech that I have been using for the past year with no issues at all (other than the weight but when it is in powered barrow, it is not noticeable). Not needed to adjust tension or swap elastics for 9mm paracord like I have had to do on some other bedchairs that were supposed to into need retensioning after a couple of uses. Other beds that have been close to comfortable are the Fox Flatliter Mk2 & the original Nash Indulgence with the elastics changed for 9mm paracord to tension it up.
This is why I will never buy a bedchair unless I can borrow one from someone (or purchase & return if not suitable) to try out first for a couple of nights (usually at home in living room with new bedchairs so don't have to get dirty or remove tags/packaging foam).

YES they have mate
its completely different with adjustable lumbar support and its gone up in weight too so they made lots of alterations if you read all my post you will see like you I loved the flatliner and I also found the new 2019 Wychwood has very similar feeling to it

Since I've owned the Avid Benchmark I've really not had a problem. I've owned a thermostat do decades and have it away several years ago when I bought the Avid Restbite I did at the time get a Fox combi chair which helped sitting side on however I've not used that for 3 years since I upgraded to the benchmark.
I still use the combi chair just for different reasons so for me the Benchmark is great and does everything I'm afterZ

I guess we are all different and what suits one person would be different for another. age is certainly a factor. I used to be able to sleep on anything but not any more and after years and numerous beds I have settled on a Nash indulgence sleep system which is brilliant, firm and comfortable. The sleep system allows you to add or subtract layers to suit the temperature so has done away with the need for winter and summer sleeping bags. I have never found a bed buddy to suit me, I have always taken a chair with me for sessions and sit out as much as possible. Extra to carry but better for my back.
My Son was not happy with his recent purchase of a current fashionable bed so he raided my garage and discovered an old Fox bed that I have not used for many years, we replaced the adjustable lumbar strapping and he reckons its the most comfortable he has been in years. Just goes to show what you put up with and don't realise that it doesn't have to be uncomfortable.

injured my back 18 months or so ago , curtailed fishing overnights for months , since starting back with overnights I can manage one night maybe 2 but that's enough .
self inflating mattress has been a revalation .......if you're struggling give one a try

I agree mate I've had disc problems for over 20 years and by far best thing for my bedchair is an inflatable mattress unter my sleeping bag. Memory foam made me worse. Mine was 15 quid from sainsbury's.

I used to use the mountain equipment helium mats, they were excellent bit never use it now i have the solar sp bedchair.

I repeated myself.
Just returning to uk, so will be using my old bent and warped Nash B.chair, good tip of the inflatable matresses, so will use my good old thermarest and invest in a new bedchair, though do like my old Nash as light but from what ive seen the new chairs have come on leaps and bounds..memory foam etc... though not for everyone... I guess Nash and wychwood are still up their for comfort and quality? Thanks
