Always used Shimano Baitrunner reels since 90's but like the look of and the reviews for Daiiwa Emblem 45 scw (and the new crosscasts) Question is how have any of you found the change over from baitrunner to QD? Suppose you get used to it quickly?

Most soon get used to it, plenty dont and go back to the br system. You'll never know until you buy and try.

I did the same year's ago and not gone back. You have to remember not to crank the handle as you pick up to engage the bait runner. I cup the spool as I pick up, I feel I have more control over the strike and feel the strength of the fish before adjusting the drag with one finger. I see D Fairbrass tends to set the drag before striking most of the time, personally not fond of that way, I'm sure others with say it's best lol

My method is set the clutch reasonably tight in the first place to assist pulling the hook home and use a finger to hold the spool but it doesn't turn that much anyway. That way I'm into the fish and can adjust where needed, I don't feel you need loose clutches on a run.
Having said that, I usually use my baitrunners and set the clutch as per and have the baitrunner mechanism a bit less than the reel drag, it's hard to quantify. That way the clutch remains pretty much the same each time I go.
Both are easy to use in practice.

Personally I hate QD but I think what you're actually asking is about is the change from BR to front drag? (if I'm wrong ignore me lol).
Makes no odds fro me. I have reels with both and and they're both easy to deal with.

I've still got 6010's for my floater fishing but always cup the spool as if I'm using my 5000t's

For me both systems boil down to personal preference and are as good as each other.
I'm a baitrunner chap as I can see at a glance the system is engaged which negates my forgetful nature.
I did a trip back to the northern hemisphere 2 years ago where I borrowed 3
"high end" qd reels, I was up and down checking I'd set them properly way to much for my fishing companions liking.
Don't go with "trend" use what works for you

I've a set of them, if they weren't so heavy i dont think there would be a reel that could touch them. Currently using my Castizm's chalk and cheese as far as build quality but what a difference in weight.

Having not used lightweight reels I'm not sure what difference it would make. I'm quite happy to use heavier reels and not know especially when I read about more modern reels not lasting.

Depends on the reels you're comparing... not all bait runners are great and not all QD's are that good either. Shimano have been churning out some quite low rent reels in recent years, where you can hardly even hear the clicker as line goes off, important to me if fishing from the boat for pike... take the old 4500B's, which I still use for cats, the baitrunner on those is just awesome. QD? I have only got it my Castizms and Basias, two very well made reels with excellent cluches and when I first got the Basias, got used to the QD very quickly. I've recently bought the new Basia 45 SCW QD's and they're frankly excellent, albeit I have only been able to use them once before lockdown, thankfully caught a few, inc. 37 on that last session before all the madness enveloped us all... horses for courses IMO, I like both, but if pushed, the Daiwa QD on their top end reels is pretty hard to beat IMO.
