Hope you can guys can give me some advice. Bit of a backstory; my 3 biggest hobbies are hiking, fishing, and camping. Here in Holland, you are not allowed to wild camp, which is my favourite thing to do, but we áre allowed to fish nights, in a bivvy, with a stretcher, etc. So, as a way of a loophole, this year I want to combine all three; hike during the day, set up camp right after dinner, and fish/ sleep/ wildcamp through the night, pack everything back up in the morning, and hike to the next spot.
Hence I'm looking for something not only ultralight, but which packs up ultra small as well, as I want to strap everything to the bottom of my backpack, or if need be, I can mount the rod and landing net to the sides of the backpack, but that would not be ideal (though my own search so far makes me fear I might have to go that route). So I'm on the look out for:
- rod; I have already had a look at some of the usual suspects (Dwarfs, Dymag), but they are still too large (long) when packed up; ideally, the rod would pack down to about 2 feet; this might force me into the telescopic rods, but I have not found any with a high enough tc (anything over 2/ 2.25 would be fine, won't be launching baits to the moon);
- landing net; same story as above, ideally something that can pack down to about 2 feet, 24" net would be perfect;
- reel: again, not casting to the moon, so nothing too large, weight is the most important thing;
- bite alarm (+ receiver): nothing fancy, just on/ off and volume would be plenty;
- single bankstick, titanium, 12"; can't find too much difference in weight between the obvious manufacturers, but perhaps you guys know of an ultra-ultralight version?
- unhooking mat; would have to be a rollup mat, but since I will always be fishing soft, grassy banks, that should be fine; this one would have to pack down to max. 2 feet in length as well; I'm hoping to be able to just stuff the rod and landing net into the mat when rolled up, and attach to my backpack as such.

TL/DR; 1 rod setup with alarm, net and mat, as light as possible, packs down to 2, maximum 3 feet.

Nash scopes snide packs down to 20inches (50cm). Only 6ft though.

Fox Tourist in 2.75 or 3.25 ( if you can find one) packs down to about 2ft i believe. They come up on Ebay every now and then.

Sorry, forgot to mention, I am looking for an at least 9 foot rod. But if I can't find anything else, that might be the one to go for in the end.

I remember those now! Yeah, I'll keep an eye out for those, but in the mean time, eBay recommend this one, the Aventik Escape; ever heard of those?

I believe NGT do a 9ft 4piece rod called the dynamic or aomething like that although i have no experience of them but they are pretty cheap so possibly worth a punt.

Interesting post mate and great set of hobbies you've got there!!
If you dont mind me hijacking, what tent / bivvy and bedchair / sleeping arrangements do you use as i am in the market for some super light overnight gear - doesnt have to be fishing specific although green / dark colour would be prefrred.

I use a High Peaks Campo tent, Outwell Sleepin Single self-inflating mat, with a Grand Kanyon Kansas 195 sleeping bag, and a Cocoon Travel Pillow (down).

Rod wise – I'd be taking a 4 section 7ft 3# Fly Rod + Reel.
Bivvy wise – Mil-Tec Recom, 2.6kg
S/Bag – British Army Issue Jungle Bag , 1kg
I've very similar plans to you but doing it from my Kayak, even thou it has a 130kg cargo capacity, light weight is best.

I have a Globetrotter telescopic rod that is 12ft 2.75 tc - i think they were marketed by Keenets a number of years ago, pretty sure there have been other similar versions from other companies.
Some inflatable unhooking mats worth looking at like sevylor - or take a waterproof cover for your doubled over sleeping mat, depends what size of fish / banksides are like....

The shimano STC travel spinning rods could be worth a look. They do a 10ft 5 piece which casts 60g (2lb ish TC) and they have a good reputation for being able to handle big angry fish in the tropics, so should be ok for a spot of carp fishing.

Hadn't thought of those, they might be a great option; there's one in there that does 50-100 gr., so that should be around 2.25 I'd think. Nice, thanks!

I'd love to do it with a kayak, but my dog is at least as ADHD as I am, so he needs at least 15K a day, or there will be issues. LOL
