Afternoon, looks like I'm being offered a broom ticket this year. Just wondered if anyone had fished it. Not looking for tips or spots or anything like that, just the general feel of the place. Is it safe/secure, can I walk around leaving stuff in my van. Been fishing sharnbrook pit 2 the last couple of years which is half the size of broom big pit I believe kind of hoping it's as peaceful as sharnbrook but with the bonus of knowing what the stock is.

It's otter fenced and gated. I'd be a little wary of leaving my kit there. I used to walk my dog around it years ago before embryo got it. I have a couple of customers who live in broom and was told this year that a few locals know the gate code and still walk their dogs around it, so it's not just anglers/members who are about. I was also told they left the gate open, which is wonderful for an otter fence!!
I can't image you'd have issues leaving gear in the van but popping up the curry house for a couple of hours might be a bit iffy.

Im on waiting list for its little relation next door. Might be worth letting the management know its not really secure esp if locals are going walkabouts AND leaving the gate open....

I live 5mins drive from there, it's never got more than a couple of people on it. As said it's not the most secure place, it's mostly viable from the road so if you leave you kit someone is likely to spot it, and as I'm sure you are aware there are lots of thieving little scrotes around here, let alone all the do as ya likeys

I'd never leave kit on a lake all set up. I just meant leaving it in the van on a lap of the lake before getting any gear out. Saying that if I'm spending 300 quid a year I expect the gate to be locked. Do they not change the gate code each year then. Might aswell not bother have a lock if they dont. I'll do some digging on a tester page I'm on see what I can find out. Got bit by a large dog last year on the local stretch of river I bailiff and its put me on edge around large dogs while I'm fishing hence why I'm looking for something that is secure and not open to general public. 10 cars in car park today at lunchtime. I know lakes are busy at the moment due to furlough but is it always that busy on a weekend?

it only has 10 or 11 swims in 40 acres, i joined first year and and only fished it a few times so dropped, I figured I would be paying my money waiting for them to grow big and then when they did I wouldn't get a swim or be left with the dregs on a Friday night due to the rota times you are allowed on and when I would arrive. I hear that the Broom blue pool would be a better ticket to have due better quality fish and how they have done so far.

Hi mate, no I didnt. With the whole covid situation and receiving an invite late in the season I gave it a miss but added my name back to the list. My neighbour managed to get on but still hasnt been up there

Waiting list for this opened again today and my brother and I have just paid our deposits to be added.
We're both on the weekday list, which is currently at 49, so guessing we have a good wait yet.
Wondering for anyone fishing at the moment if they could share how they're finding it?
Any ideas on numbers of tickets for each rota?
Do they do winter tickets?
Are dogs allowed?
Looking at the map the fence has 4 gates on the perimeter? Can you drive round in that case and use any gate for unloading, or is there only car access to the main car-park?

Think it's 50 on each rota, they did do winter tickets but not sure they still do them, no idea if dogs are allowed, and people aren't holding their tickets for very long generally so that says a lot. There are a hell of a lot of small fish in there. I was offered a ticket last year but turned it down due to the very low average in there

I tend to agree. If you are fortunate to catch the couple of target fish that are in there early on, I know a guy who caught the big girl after work when he popped in for a couple of hours. What are you left fishing for? A load of doubles ??? I think that would very quickly wear thin.

That's interesting what you mentioned on smaller fish. I hadn't actually looked at the 'doubles' category on the fish pics. Just looked and seems about 80 doubles, but actually more than that are 20+ - just going off the pics shown on the website of course.
