I dont often cook on the bank, more I reheat stuff I have cooked and chucked in the freezer but just treated myself to a Ridgemonkey Connect Combi & Steamer XXL Granite Edition and was wondering what was the best Oil to use when cooking from fresh? Are some oils not recommended with these types of cookers?

I just use a spray oil,less mess and never had any issues

Groundnut oil is a good all rounder pretty much flavourless and has a very high smoke point so great for anything cooked at high temps stir-fry, steaks etc.quite often I'll just use butter,there's not much that don't taste better when fried in butter .

Spray oil isn't recommended because it can damage anything non stick

That Ridgemonkey chap seems to like Hemp Oil!

I used to use "Spray Oil" on my Ridgemonkey, it never did it any harm, but it would form a greasy hardish residue that took a lot of scrubbing and scraping to get it off to clean it.

In the end I just stopped using it and used normal oil. Even burnt on food was easier to clean off.

If Gerry was still with us, you would get a right ear bending off him about using spray oil on teflon coated pots and pans etc as the subject did get raised in the past now and then and he was dead against it.

You won't until you do though. It's very widely advised against using for anything that's coated in any way, obviously for a reason. I found stuff didn't cook as nicely when I used it before too

Also as well its very rare you need oil to cook in a Ridgemonkey, it was in my early days that I did use oil, but then I discovered in a Ridgemonkey, you just throw everything in and the likes of bacon, sausages and burgers etc provide their own "fat" and your constantly turning it so any excess oil or fat flies out the edges too.

I don't even take cooking oil with me now for cooking, I don't think, and maybe if I do need it, I just use the sesame or sunflower oil etc that I have in a very small bottle that I pour into stick mixes etc.

I may start cooking more exotic things that need oil.

The Joe Morgan CarpTV vids on Youtube crack me up.

The only oil I would use is extra virgin olive oil, there's been a lot of research that shows nearly all other cooking oils are toxic, oil oxidises very quickly.
However virgin olive oil appears to be the exception. But don't leave it in the sun keep it in the dark.

There have also been fish deaths attributed to poisoning due to floaters soaked in oil being out in the sun and not being eaten for a few days and going rancid.

Best thing mate, you could end up eating bits of the coating before you notice too, and that ain't going to be good for you
