Sorry if this has been asked before I'm at work and ain't got time to search the forum.
But I've had some new tourneys and was lucky enough to land a couple of fish but the drag on the originals is too slow to what I'm used too.
I've found some on ebay and some my friend had told me about around the same price £20
Just wanted to know if there's any cons to go with the pros and which ones would be better
One are carbon washers and the others are Teflon. Which ones would you recommend.

Changing the washers isn't going to change the speed of the drag. You'll need to either remove the spring from your drag cap or replace it with a professionally done one ie Weston etc.

Swapping the felt washers for carbon washers DO speed the drag up
There are 2 ways to speed the drag up on a tourny one is to swap the washers and the other is to remove the spring from the spool cap and replace with spacer, or just simply buy a spool cap already fitted with bush.
You may find that just by swapping the washers wont speed them up as much as you want, just changing the spool cap and leaving the felt washers may be a better compromise
A lot of people do both but this makes them very fast, what can be done is use a blend of felt and carbon washers ie there are 5 felt washers in the tourny spool the more carbon fitted the slower it will be so you could say swap 3

Yeah I don't really want them so half a turn it will be from loose to locked up if I can help it. I just think the tournaments took abot too many turns to tighten up I think it was 4 full turns. I've never had washers in my previous reels but on them it was just a couple of turns to make the difderence. I just found it hard playing the fish yesterday playing under the tip. Baitman i have tried the link but its not working for me unfortunately.

That's brilliant mate I can see the post now I've followed. Looks easy enough that I could do it. Will I need to put my carbon washers in when they arrive or just keep the originals in thanks again.
Also I found another thread where they pretty much do the same but they use shop brought plastic spacers also they use some 2 part reason to stick the caps back together once drilled did u glue them back together or just leave it loose?

The original felt washers are fine. If they are greasy then wash them and when dry just add a dab of thin oil, sewing machine or 3 in 1, to make sure they can turn with no drag as all the pressure is from the drag cap.
You can test everything by dry fitting together before you glue it up. A couple of small spots of araldite to reseal the cap.

All this messing seems a bit mad to alter one of the best things about the 5000T. What are people buying them for if they don't like how they work? The drag is great as standard.

Beyonce not everyone has the same opinion clearly. I don't think having to turn the cap 4 full turns is the best thing about the reel. I love everything else about the reel. People modify alot of things they buy whether its a bait boat a reel a rod it doesnt mean we shouldnt buy it. So I'm not ruining anything I'm customising it to suit me, everyone is different and entitled to there own opinion.

4 turns of the spool cap would be spool so loose it's falling off to locked up, rock solid. In what situation would you need to do that in one go?
I wasn't saying that your opinion is wrong, just asking why? The 5000T has loads of lovely smooth, useable drag. It's probably one of the only things about the reel that has not been surpassed.

I'm just saying I would prefer the drag to be half the turns that it is now. I've spent 900 on reels I want them to be perfect mate.
I was playing a fish on them and as beautiful and smooth the clutch is I came to the conclusion the drag may lose me fish to hook pulls. I had a fish o4⁴n with a clump of weed stuck around the leader knot. So when I thought the fish was ready for the net I tightened up the clutch to lift the weed and bring the fish up. And as fish do it went on a last lunge for freedom. And because the clutch was tight it took me that extra couple of seconds to loosen clutch. This is the main reason I want them speeding up. Obviously looking at things it's fair to say a good 50% of tourney owners do the same for same reason or another.

That's the beauty of the stock clutch, you have so much adjustment you don't need to ever be in that situation. You can always tighten the clutch to just the right point where you have enough to land the fish, but if can take line if it needs too. I had a go with a quick drag recently and what an awful experience, such a little amount of adjustment, it was always either too tight or too loose.
Everyone has different ways they like to do things, but I wouldn't give up on the stock drag just yet, take some time to get used to it.

Maybe your right maybe I'm not used to them. Well it's pretty obvious I'm not . However I did have to have it locked up to lift the weed it weighed a ton lol.

My diy emblem qd takes the spool from slack bait runner to firm fish playing in half a turn, and a further quarter of a turn to solid lock up.
There is plenty enough micro adjustment available to make fish playing a breeze and easy to suddenly compensate if needed.

I got some speed caps and find them too quick for me, way too sensitive, I find the carbon washers with the standard caps a better all rounder, it's like 2 1/2 full turns from locked up to fully loose and it's spot on, found them even faster than the ci4 xtc I had before which were horrible.

All personal preference - I've got carbon washers and Reel Kings speed caps on 2x sets of Tournies (5000 & 6000T) and my SS2600 collection. If coming from a non QD product (with multiple turns from freespool to locked) the conversions do take some getting used to but they are certainly just as useable if not more practical in terms of real world carp fishing; I play all my fish off the clutch and this just requires micro rather than macro movements. Most of my carp fishing is locked up or pretty much locked up - casting is fully locked up - I never set up my reels to peel off line to infinity and beyond; why would anyone? The only time we need a freespool is when setting indicators or maybe at the end of the session when the rods are on the deck off their sticks / pod. QDs also make this a lot easier / quicker!
My advice - ignore the Tourney clutch purists and give them a go; the ability to give line within 10-12 'clicks' during a fight (you will soon get a feel for how many clicks do what in terms of tension) rather than 3-4 revolutions is an advantage IMO - especially with bigger fish that can take line under a tight clutch at will . . .
