There wont be anything if he had a trip booked the last few weeks as there have been massive fires in the area 51'000 acres of forest gone, they evacuated Pascal and family for a week or so while it was ripping through the area the club house and family home has just about got away with it they had the fire brigade there constantly dousing these with water but the fires made it nearly to the waters edge, it was the track around the perimeter that acted as a break it then went on past and nearly made it into Hostens village then the winds changed it came back past the lake and onto St Symphorien where they evacuated the villagers, the lake by all accounts has a thick layer of ash on the water as you can imagine the forest is devastated, the family posted the other day that they hope to get some swims open in the near future but obviously the fire has taken all the power lines out in the area, they were aloud back last week on the 20th to see the damage caused I think the trailers that some anglers leave near the clubhouse with all their kit are all burnt out.

Nature will soon restore it I can remember after a TV personality fished peg 9 and he either threw a cigar end into the undergrowth or had a BBQ with charcoal and an ember caught light, I cant remember exactly now what started the fire but that ripped through a good area at the back of the swim and looked awful for a year or two but it soon returned to normal and you wouldn't of known it had happened.

The fire on 25 July is not yet fully under control.
For security reasons, we can't give you an exact
reopening date.
Hoping to open swim 1/2 - 5 - 6 - 7/8/9 - Island
for 20 August.
It's not easy for us and we think of you who like
to come fishing.

My friend who is hoping to go out there in swim 5 got this email from them.

Huge fire still raging in that area of France.

Looks terrible for the lake and all those connected with it.
Hope they come through it safely.

Not opening until the 17th September at the earliest

On a BBC news story they quoted a resident from Hostens who said at the moment they weren't under threat so hopefully that includes the lake.

First rainfall down there yesterday, I think 17th of September is an optimistic date it looked apocalyptic on the news a few days ago.

You can get on most places if you put your mind to it. If you expect to walk onto the top waters your going to be disappointed.

Hopefully they'll be ok Gerry, I wouldn't call Rainbow rich in an abundance of naturals for them to feed upon and my concern is this has come shortly after the stressful spawning period when they could do with replenishing their energy and reserves, I'm not sure how large volumes of ash falling on the lake will affect any DO with raised water temperatures as Rainbow is like bathwater during summer.

When I fished it and we had a heatwave !
the temps was in the 40c range hardly dropped at night and the water was unbelievably warm I was really shocked at just how warm a lake could get
