I thought I'd get myself a proper charcoal bbq having never had one before . After a bit of research ordered the Weber go anywhere . Looking for a bit of advice from all you seasoned bbq'ers .
Do you use lumpwood or briquettes?
Is the Weber chimney starter worth getting ?
What do you find is the best fire lighter - white blocks / wood type or fluid ?
Go anywhere specific - is it worth getting the carry bag or because the bbq has a carry handle itself is this sufficient?
Many thanks for any help .

I did the same as you pal. The chimney starter is fantastic do yourself a favour and get it. With chimney starter any cheap firelighters will do the trick and any sort of charcoal. Lumpwood obviously easier and faster but briquettes will burn longer.
I looked at the bag more for storage/transport and ended up buying just a cheap one off ebay for £18 which does the job. Carries bbq, chimney starter and weber T-par grill brush with ease.
If you look on YouTube some cool mods people do with theirs
Epic little bbq

Thanks for the reply . Having never had a proper charcoal bbq wasn't sure if the chimney was just a gimmick . I saw on YouTube people cutting the grille in half to allow chimney to be stored inside - seems a good idea . I didn't know if the bag was necessary or whether I'd just carry it with the handle . I guess it would save any mess - just a bit pricey for the Weber bag . Thanks for the help.

For fishing on the bank Id not bother with a chimney
Don't use the white blocks for starting the fire ... Honestly, it will taint the food - Use the straw starters you can get
Depending on how long you going, work it out from there how much charcoal you need ... I use Aussie Beads or Weber briquettes when fishing and just use an old Tupperware type box... Youll need no more than 8-12 for a decent dinner
Just remember to have patience before starting cooking ... Some great facebook groups for BBQ ... Same principle if using a 57cm weber or small weber (I use the smokey Joe for fishing or my Cobb)
Welcome to another hobby to spend money on !!

I have the weber go specific chimney starter. Its smaller then a standard chimney starter holding just enough to cook on, small enough to fit inside the weber when closed taking up no additional space and easy enough to light and have evenly burning charcoal inside 10 minutes without having to shift charcoal around to take.
My question to you is why would you not take it?

As your will only be doing "short" cooks, not 12 hour smoking, lumpwood will be fine but it really doesnt make any difference. Briquettes will burn longer.
Get the smaller chimney. 100 % worth having
Regarding firelighters, if using a chimney then you can actually just use a couple of lightly scrunched up sheets of news paper. Use the wooden (natural) fire lighters, much better than the soaked white blocks and stay away from fluid, you DONT need it with a chimney

I have the safari chef 2 hp and absolutely love it. Does anything from boiling your kettle to cooking a curry to grilling some meat. One of the best purchases I have done for fishing
The one thing it fails on though is for steak its no good. Nowhere near hot enough for a good sear cooks the steak more then anything.
Apart from that imo the perfect fishing companion. Comes in a nice carry bag, folds up small cant knock it
