Hi .

Looking for a good braid for mainline .
Hopefully one that's not been overpriced with carp tax .
Any suggestions?

If you don't need it to sink like a brick then Daiwa J Braid X8. It will sink with a bit of persuasion. I'm yet to find a braid that really sinks well from a non carp brand and use Gardner Hydrosink.

The eBay/Amazon ones are fine for spod or marker work but even the ones I've tried that say sinking float.

Sinking would be ideal but struggling to find a non carp branded one .

Decathlon do a sinking braid under the caperlan brand. I've been tempted to try it
Myself but haven't yet so I can't comment on whether it's any good.

Doesn't sink well and the dye runs out very quickly. Also not that cheap. Better off with Gardner.

I use 40lb Spectra braid for my catfishing. About £35 for 2,000m.

Whats like for strength and sinking mate?

I used spectra for a season eel fishing.. it's cheap but it floats .

I've tried this too, got 4 spools in black 0.40 if you want a thick floating braid

Braid lasts for ages and you can reverse it back on once one half starts getting tired. I would just get the Gardner @ £25 for 200m. It's good, reliable stuff.

Use it for all my piking deadbait and lure rods never had a problem

As said the Gardner Hydro sink is good stuff and it's the one I use but if you were looking ar a much cheaper sinking braid then Askari have a few different ones ...

I have used several branded carp fishing braid, but for me the best proper sinking braid is Hydro-Sink. Was going to try the Noir but my ordinary four-year-old green version (now rather faded, it has to be said) still performs, so why bother?

PowerPro is a very good braid, but it doesn't sink too well (Not supposed to). Brilliant for the river, though, fishing tight to a heavy lead.

Sufix 832...I have two spools with it on but only used it once at the tail end of last summer. It sinks but not the ultra fast rate or whatever the advertising says that it does.

I have been using PowerPro, in 40 or 50Lbs for about 4 years.
My waters have horrendous, and unknown, snags, so the lack of sink element is probably a plus for me.

I use it on my French trips (big fish weedy water) as well as in the US, suggest it is worth a look for anyone who wants to avoid carp taxed braid.

Might be worth trying the thinking anglers line next, gardners line specialist Lewis moved there and first impressions were lovely, I put there OGX line in the catsgoricsl of ridiculously good 😊

Get on Amazon and get yourself some seaknight w8,I had the same dilemma trying to find a good but affordable braid and went for this after looking at reviews .had it in a couple if months now and it's performed superbly..get on it

I've never had a problem with it floating at all, caught bags of carp on it last year and catfish to 58lb. I have 6 spare spools filled with it and it does me.
