I have just had a delivery from dpd and their tracking service was superb.I have never used them for what you want but was really impressed by their service and tracking information provided

They all have issues but ups have been the best for me up to now.whoever you use get it collected at the beginning of the week never after wednesday.

I've found them all to be pretty much the same, however would recommend Parcel2Go for booking as they seem to give the best rates (or at least they do for more regular sized parcels)

After recent experience with dpd I wouldn't trust them to deliver a message let alone anything of financial value.
Dishonest driver who lied about attempting delivery. No way of contacting to question delivery lateness / no show. Nobody available to talk to. No Sunday opening or delivery.
Of course it's all subjective. Some people are OK with that level of service

Todber Manor sent my glasses with them and the service was exceptional and the guy that dropped them at my door was spot on.I do live in a decent area though

Not long ago I purchased a 25kg bag of potatoes from the potato guys up in Scotland.
Anyhow when purchasing it was on a next day delivery and to be delivered by DHL.
Anyway the potato guys slogan is ‘in the ground one day, on your doorstep the next'.
Well that didn't happen as in fact they got delivered 6 days later.
I then proceeded to put on the potato guys Facebook page ‘in the ground one day, on a DHL's delivery drivers plate the next'.
Anyway guys those potatoes are 3100dy delicious but quite costly at £15 a bag though that includes delivery anywhere nationwide.
Get on them.

DPD definitely the best for deliveries in central London. You pretty much have the same guy every day, we use them for business.

I personally would swerve Hermes at all costs, even if it's the cheapest! Had nothing but issues with them....

I have used Tuffnels arranged through Interparcel for sending bivvies and rods multiple times and would recommend them.
They came out to be the cheapest every time. They collected the item from me, delivered them the next day all fully tracked insured etc.
Cost between £25-£35 depending on the item and how far it was going.

as the TRUTH is it depends entirely on the driver in your area
Hermes the Lady goes above and beyond that collects and delivers my parcels and yet heard horror stories from people in different areas
DPD had very good and just one very bad delivery with them with them
Parcels2go sent stuff with them no issues at all

I got to tell you about the post office on Friday I wanted to send a small parcel/packet to a friend I forgot about it until 16.30 ! rushed to the post office bloody Q !
I got to the counter at 17.15 explained I wanted to get the parcel next day (Sat) she said as I had missed the 17.00 collection the only way it would be £12 something !!
so I said oh well in that case as it wont get there till after the weekend whats the cheapest recorded delivery then ?
£3.79 ok that will do she said 2 to 3 days
GUESS WHAT !! it was delivered Sat at 11.30 !!!!!

You see that is the problem recommending things to people, I send rods most weeks and tuffnells have lost 2 sets dpd ran over 1 set with a forklift in a warehouse , I sent 3 sets of rods by tnt and all 3 customers got the wrong sets ! It really is a lottery.

posting is a lottery, your best going on parcel2go and finding the cheapest option with the best insurance, never under insure.

only sent 2 things with Hermes Jeff

Bit of a different slant on it.
When you send a parcel you have 2 choices. You can either deal direct with the actual carriers - DPD, DHL, Hermes, Tufnell's, UPS etc. These are the actual company which has the drivers be it as salaried employees or zero hour contractors.
The second option is to go through an umbrella company. These companies such as iPost, Parcel2Go,ParcelHero etc don't have their own delivery network but offer competitive rates via the big carriers who they negotiate prices to channel customers to them.
So sounds good, cheaper rates than going direct to the company. The downside is that if something goes wrong, and even the best companies can **** up, your contract isn't with the courier company but with the ‘umbrella' company and despite how good a reputation the carrier may have the ‘umbrella' is the one you deal with. You may find this is not your best bet.

Yep, they're all much of a muchness. My missis runs an art business and sells a lot of goods via eBay and direct from her website, she's tried most over the years, highlighting the worst as DPD (awful), TNT (God awful) and Tuffnells (beyond awful). In fact, I ripped up a half million pound contract with the green morons when I was head of operations at large manufacturing company in Essex - such was the level of issues we were having with them. Very poorly managed business, avoid at all costs! One thing you will find common to the poorer service providers is that they sub-contract deliveries, a lot. You're then in the realms of some BO ridden EE who can barely speak English, drives a transit that shouldn't be on the road and couldn't give a toss about your delivery. You've all seen them tearing around a street near you. DPD have a habit of using subs in my area, no small wonder I dread anything I've ordered arriving in one piece from that lot.
The 'best' have actually been Royal Mail for small to medium items and Hermes for larger parcels up to 10-15kg. That's based on a few hundred orders a month by the way, not just one delivery, as some people seem to think is representative of a good service Oh and don't think cheap means good, hard to believe some of you will base your decision on that and that alone.
Insurance? LOL. Read the T&C's VERY carefully - in most instances, the cover you're buying ain't worth spit. If you do claim, they'll also make life as difficult as they can, believe me, I've spent many hours trying to claim for lost or damaged goods on a commercial basis, these feckers do not want to pay out a penny. They make more profit from that than they ever would from the physical delivery, think about it... you're best option is send fully tracked and never send anything on a Friday - as it'll sit in a hub over the weekend in a lot of instances, massively increasing the likelihood of damage. Ask any rod builder if they ship on a Friday!

It says DPD is the worst (awful)but they can't be the worst if there is a God awful and beyond awful surely in terms of awfulness beyond awful is worse than awful meaning that courier is the worst.Unless God awful is a higher rank of awfulness than beyond awful,so can you explain the ranking system

I tend to stick with Parcelforce these days, although to be fair I've never had a major problem with any of them apart from Tufnells who twice failed to turn up for a collection.
I've come to the conclusion that they are all ****s, absolute ****s and absolute ****ing ****s ****ers!
I recently found two ESP Vertex 12' 9” 3.75 Distance carp rods that I've been trying to get for years at £40 per rod
Postage would be horrendous if any form of insurance was included and I agree with the poster that insurance is useless. Because it was such a good deal and the seller preferred pickup and I'm retired so time isn't an issue , I packed some sarnies and a flask and drove from Wales to Bournemouth to pick them up. Cost as much as the postage would have been and guaranteed getting them to me in one piece. If I wasn't retired would still consider doing it and taking the grandkids for a bucket and spade trip the the beach 👍.
These dodgy courtiers have got us by the balls at the moment but they are on thin ice as this thread proves. It only takes one to break the mould then the dominoes will start to fall.
