Motorists have been warned of a significant change to number plate laws which comes into force
From Tuesday, September 28, road users will be required to remove any GB sticker or magnet from their number plates when driving in Europe and instead use a UK sticker.
In addition, any driver with GB permanently on their number plate will now also need a sticker or order a new number plate with the UK designation,
The update has been outlined by the United Nations, which said it had received "a notification that the United Kingdom is changing the distinguishing sign that it had previously selected for display in international traffic
on vehicles registered in the United Kingdom, from 'GB' to 'UK'"

An opportunity to cut and paste my other post
I wouldn't.
If there's a chance, even if it's only a slim chance I'd worry about getting caught.
Too many chancers about and they seem to get away with it, sod's law if you or I done it we'd be the ones to get caught.
Why bother for the cost of £1.38

I hear what you say BUT !!!!!!!!!!! You dont want to be the one that gets pulled if they have a purge
years ago I went on a Dover ferry to France and it was taking forever to get off it ?
it turned out the big layby just outside had a spot check on HEADLIGHTS !! and reflective vests
it was broad daylight but they were checking the cars to see if you had converters on those that didnt were not allowed to go until they went in the big supermarket opposite and bought converters ! not sure if they were fined or not ?
as I had a set on my car because my partner at the time was German and I used to go to Germany regularly and just left them on never took em off
yes its extremely rare bit like this bait business you have people saying yea no problem they ont care I went straight thru while other have had bait confiscated

It's a new rule that has been brought in by the British government. I'd imagine the French police are either unaware of it or couldn't care less, but as Bob days, for peace of mind and not much money ....

Vests and headlights are important; very important and you should not ignore this, but the french don't give a hoot whether a sticker says GB or UK, as Jon says the ever so hard working, forward thinking mastheads of our little island deemed this to be necessary, but no one else cares! Not arguing but it's no big deal, trust me, I've driven 100k miles around all of France..

It only takes one French traffic cop who's brother has had his Jersey fishing license revoked and wants to take revenge

Correct. No one cares about stickers on number plates. The French find the whole thing hilarious.

This is British jingoism at its very worst. As some have posted, the French couldn't give a flying ****.

And, of course, any number plates with the letter K immediately followed by G will have to be re-made with 'l' and 'b' in the same position and used when driving in the EU.

A cut and paste
The change from GB to UK is aimed at being inclusive of Northern Ireland.
GB – Great Britain – does not include Northern Ireland. The full name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland – with the GB representing Scotland, England and Wales.
It's not a big deal in France or here, just the cost of a £1.50 sticker.

What a load of hot air over a couple of £1 stickers , hardly a hassle , you spend more on a coffee at the port 🙄

And do you tip the coffee away as soon as you've bought it?
Nothing to do with cost at all, it's simply about being treated like a gullible mug but crack on if you want to..
