I'm currently "thinking" of investing in a power porter.
I don't think I need the big boy.
The new ones are 24 v.
As there's no shows on its difficult to suss out how heavy they are to pack down.
I have a carp porter now and that fits easily into my car.
I wonder how heavy the wheel/motor is?
Any thoughts or suggestions.
What experiences have you had using one and how easily do they assemble and pack away?
Cheers Mike

they are heavy, but you remove the wheel and battery separately, so it does come apart. the frame is the frame, no real difference there to a normal carp porter. fitted in a normal car fine for me.

No not the mk8 - I spoke with Prestige a couple of months ago after emailing them to maybe make a Power Porterlite . . .they said they were developing a Power Mk2 with a fat front wheel so I'm assuming this will be a 'lighter' variant than the current power models . . .

I got one at the end of last year, the only heavy part is the front wheel/motor assembly and the batteries, the rest of it is basically no different to their push porters.

I have just sold my Power Porter Extreme and reverted back to a sml mk2 carp porter (with sml rear wheels) and have come to terms with the fact that I now have to do 2 trips from the car.
The Power Porter is a great bit of kit but it is big and heavy and and takes up to much space in the car.
I'm an old Geezer with crocked knees and found that dealing with the power porter was such a chore that it negated the advantages of it. I ended up with a trailer to ferry it around .. and then was all the hassle of securing the trailer in the lake carpark etc.
if you have got a sizeable van and wheel it on and off it is great... but if you have to break it down to get it in the average car .. it is tough.
great bit of kit though.

I felt the same about the Carp porter, the Nash made more sense regards to size, further research and I've going to motorise my own Avid Transit X as it's a decent barrow size wise and packs down well.

Just looking at the Prestige site Tony and it looks like they've release a Fatboy wheel conversion 'kit' for £650 . . .if you then look at the new updated mk2's (Streamline / Standard / Wideboy) they all say they can accept this kit . . .?
Might email prestige as to whether this is what they were inferring - you could buy a mk2 streamline for £100 and then add the kit making the total £750 . .

£650 seems very steep to me. When someone mentioned a kit a few months back I expected sub £500. It's a wheel, a motor, a couple of batteries and some cheap Chinese electronics. From what I can tell they don't actually manufacture any of the major components themselves. At least with a full barrow you can see there's loads of actual manufacturing of the frame etc to do but what exactly are they doing for six hundred and fifty quid? Apart from importing it all and sticking it in a box.

Mike,
I have a late MK6 24v bought in 2017 and it is heavy, there's no getting around it. the front wheel with the motor is heavy. Unfortunately I'm not one of those blessed with a Van and ramp so I have to take mine apart every time and stow it in the car for transport. It is painful, but I tell you what, I wouldn't be without it, the amount of gear I take is frankly ridiculous, but I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.
There's no way I could move the amount of **** I carry without it and in my mind its one of those essential buys. They seem to go up in price every year. Think I paid about £750 for mine but they are now nudging a grand aren't they? I'd still buy one at that price if mine got robbed tomorrow lol.
In winter that front wheel always get caked in crap and I spent ages cleaning it when I got home until I bought the £50 bag which is designed for the wheel. Drop it in that now and mud falls off inside another hit to the wallet but worth it.

Hi
I appreciate your reply.
I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle or not.
I'm going to look at my mates next week.
I've not got a van either. My carp porter mk 2 goes in the back of my peugeot 3008 easily.
I agree with you about too much gear but I like to be comfy and If I need it it's with me not at home cos it's too heavy to carry.
I've got 2 metal hips so I need to be careful.
I spoken to prestige and they say there are no new versions due out that are much lighter in weight.
I'm undecided what to do but after looking at one next week I'll make my mind up.
It's a shame no shows are on to look at the various options.
Thanks again for the comments.
Cheers Mike

Mike,
I had a MK2 Porter and remember sweating my knackers off doing about 5 trips up and down a hill and that was a turning point for me and I haven't looked back since.
I have only just replaced the batteries on it. The best bit of advice I could give you is do it. The funny thing will be, once you have one you will be cursing for not buying one sooner haha.
For me it's one of those bits of kit that would never sell. I'd probably part with my Vic Gibson corked Torrix before flogging that.
Good luck in whatever you decide but look after yourself with your hip.

I have spoken to two people at prestige. Both said the newer version is lighter but not significantly so.
You might have more details but that was the impression I got.

Agree Tony this was my understanding - ie. a dedicated mk2 with power and fat boy tyre . . .I would strip off the side bars and rod rest (redundant) and hope for a decent barrow bag . . .failing that you don't see many 2nd hand Metros for sale and they do come with rear wheel option included. . .the price is silly tho . . .

Doesn't seem to be many Carp Porters available anywhere at the moment....🤷♂️....I'm looking for a triporter conversion kit and nowhere has them in stock but then looking deeper there's not much of anything in stock....Covid production problems at Prestige maybe? They certainly can't blame it on a ship stuck in the canal...

And I get to keep the barrow and luggage I've already purchased. The be fair though it's a labour of love so would cost more if I where to whack on my time. I will have a fair better barrow though as I'll put on cruise control, breaking, reverse (essential as I've hit those sodding tree roots or get grounded in mud) and lights.

Quick question about the Nash one - is the wheel solid or does it has an inner tube? Just a little concerned if the latter with punctures etc?

Has an inner tube. The general trend is to fit brackets that allow you to remove the wheel. Some are filling the tyre with repair tyre gear.

If she catches you it will be more than your knee that's fooked.
I suggest getting up in the middle of the night and pretending that you hear an intruder. Tell her to wait upstairs just in case. Sneak the barrow into the garage. Tell her you reckon you scared them off. Result is Porter in garage and you are a hero. Win win

. . its 150W not that it really matters . . .I don't lug much gear anyway (my porterlite is perfect, albeit unpowered) so I'm hoping the small metro footprint and minimal bits to assemble are sufficient. I know a lot of the chat on the DIY page extols the virtues of 350W+ hub motors and bigger batteries etc but as far as I'm concerned that all equals more weight . . .which is fine if your rolling on and off a van but not assembling from scratch out of the boot of an estate . . .
I've got a 15-20min hump on my syndy and a steep hill from one of the carparks - will let you know if its underpowered / a lemon . . .
