Seems a lot of money for what is effectively a PIR sensor, if you really think you need something like this have a look on Amazon or eBay lots of cheap products from £15 .

Tbh if someone is really determined & wants to take your stuff and it's likely they are carrying a weapon I'd let the take it, tackle can be replaced.

Ive used PIRs for decades and I've had the odd person approach and on hearing the alarm turn around and walk away.

This is what me thinking was , I guess it won't deter any if they are solely out for your gear but might put off the chancer, which PIRs should I be looking for 🤔

A couple of places I fish have had some undesirables lurking around at night so I now use a Westlake Pro Bivvy alarm system.
I picked one up for £50, 3 x PIRs and a remote receiver for the bivvy, I've only ever used 1 x PIR do have 2 spares 😂😂😂👍👍
Seems to work ok, it's more about me being woken up if someone is approaching when I'm asleep, better prepared than being unexpectedly surprised.

I've used stand alone and transmitters and receivers from £12 to £50. I now own a ‘smart alarm' that works with my new digital Delkims they also make Bivvy lights superb bits of kit for £80 a piece. They make alarms that work with Delks Fox and Nash, I've owned my previous set for a few years upgraded to the new delks and purchased the newer alarm and Bivvy light well pleased with them. May have to reduce the sensitivity as mine was picking up cars passing 15 meters away.

The movement detector is programmed in to one of the channels of your receiver (RXi-D) and has a unique sound to the Delk Alarms (it pips 3 low 3 high 3 low 3 high). It also triggers the Receivers anti theft if turned off.

The Bivvy light can be programmed with up to 8 channels??? (Certainly 6) 4 bite alarms and 2 movement detectors.

The range on both are great, only bettered being digitalised.

I took a bit of a financial hit upgrading from the analogue set up to digital, pleased I did though, not that there was any problems with my analogue set up, besides the chap that purchased the set was over the moon.

Not really that well known in the UK, I've had mine for 4 plus years and think they are superb. I use Duracell rechargeable AA batteries.

To be on safe side why don't you fence off swim with a battery powered electric fence just in case the search lights fail to deter any nocturnal invasion, mind u maybe a movement activated turret gun should be deployed in the bivvy doorway as a last line of defence lol.

I use one due to my tackle insurance, I was fishing in Epping and one April and it snowed and didn't bother to set my movement detectors up and low and behold I stired around midnight and my rods had been nicked so as much as I appreciate the madness and fish waters that are behind locked doors nowadays I'd rather not take the chance. Especially when I've invested 35 years into building my kit up.

I knew a guy whom carried a machete now that's a joke.

You are a heavy sleeper I guess or your rods were robbed by a ninja who bizarrely passed his initiation into the fund raising department of the local yakuza gang by the most stealthy display of rod theft ever. As for fools who's mentality allows them to consider a machete as a option against theft well where to start.....

when fishing dodgy lakes i pretty much have my rod butts under my bedchair
also simply set up a spare delkim with line and a weight at shin level

I've heard people using that method many years ago, I use my spare delk for my snid rod.

Wouldn't you be better off setting the line slightly higher than shin level??
That would stop the odd fox etc. from setting it off... or am I missing something??

could also just get a cheap micron
ive fished quite a few dodgy waters and think id rather have something set away a bit that hopefully is enough to have the thief turn round than end up rucking with couple of guys

Slightly off thread but would be interested to know how many people feel their gear is seriously at risk on the waters they fish.

Thing is should a unexpected visitor trip over your carefully set trip wire and break his neck or smash his skull in or maybe even impale himself as a result of your work the assumed thief out to Nick your gear will become an innocent walker with a large compensation claim for personal injury against yourself and pressing charges for a act of deliberate intention to cause injury or harm so basically the trip wire set up is just ridiculous in reality, the actual occasions of being in any serious danger on the bank are tiny and remote to be resorting to a lot of actions usually spouted.
