I must admit I find it very difficult to line up the two waterproof marks on my chirp.

Obviously doesn't help the shape of it, its difficult to get a grip of it, but the amount of sheer force you need to exert in order to line up those two marks is frankly ridiculous, and then opening it up again is the same.

How do you all get on with yours?

Just wondering whether I've bought a duffer.

If there was some sort of aftermarket jig to make it easier I'd throw my money at one, its virtually impossible to do.

Very light smear or petroleum jelly on the thread will probably help ??

I have the deeper pro with probably the same waterproof marks. The problem is the top cover skipping or jumping some threads (dont know if this is the case but couldnt think of any other reason why it would do it?) Instead of exerting too much force as they are only plastic threads! I unscrew the top and try again untill the waterproof marks align without forcing it. I guess its the same thing with bite alarms not aligning when threading them into buzz bars.

That's something I have noticed, the threads top and bottom can easily misalign so that the waterproof marks are miles apart. Like yourself I usually try again until you can see that they are in the right place before tightening.

I've got to say, I do really rate the information you receive from the deeper chirp, but way it closes leaves much to be desired.

I've had both the pro plus and the chirp and never had any issues or felt it needed excessive pressure. Sounds like you may have forced it when not aligned and crossed the threads? They are only plastic so wouldn't take much.

No that's not happened I have a separate night cover and that's just as hard to line up as the green top cover. I used the night cover last Saturday for the first time, only because it's easier to see in the water than the military green cover.

Mine was a bit tight to begin with but did seem to yield slightly after a couple of uses, and has been fine ever since.

I do wish though that the manufacturers could make a more aerodynamic version as the ball shape is like a bag of spanners to cast and hits the water like a lead balloon.

The one I have the two marks must be an inch apart when it's already insanely tight.

I'm going to try vaseline suggested by Gerry, tried and tested in tight situations

I thought I had this problem but try starting the threading in different places as it ends up in different places depending on where you start it, we'll mine does anyway

Start the thread at different angles mate, I have no problem at all matching them up on my chirp. Of my head I think I start opposite sides of the chirp

Just took a look at mine, this is where I start.

all you need to do is align and tighten if the marks are not aligned you unscrew and then rotate the top until it drops back into the thread then tighten up. Use a light touch and you'll find there is two potential start points when the threads start to interlock.

Basically there are two starting points with the thread. One will allow alignment the other won't. I align my alarms in a similar fashion.

Thanks guys, it might be a newness thing as this is only the second time I've used it. I have tried the starting positions as suggested. I've checked the threads and they are perfect. I did pop a bit of vaseline on the edge of the top cover and that makes it massively easier to close.
