Looking to join one of Lymm, Warrington or Northwich and am after some advice to help make my mind up.
I'm after the following:
Safety - Want to start taking my lad and have a decent car so don't want any of the local scroats about
Decent size fish - 25lb + to go at ideally
Reasonable size - don't want to fish puddles
The nicer looking the better
Not Rammo on a weekend
Ideally 3 rods
Any help or info would be great, Id like to here from people who have spent time on any of the following if possible please:
Belmont Pool
Catch Penny Pool
Founders Pool
Lymmvale
Nunnsmere
Shakerley Mere
Tabely Mere
Tabely Moat
Wrinehill Pool
Sandiway Big
Sandiway Small

I've just started looking at exactly the same, though I haven't included Northwich as they don't have that many waters. So far I've looked at WAA in detail, you can only fish 3 rods at Sandiway Large and that meant to be mentally busy. Everywhere else on WAA is 2 rods. The Mount is a small runs water with small-ish fish. Appleton can only do days. Grey Mist full of idiots with bait boats which come really close to you on the opposite bank. Budworth is large and WAA only have a portion of the bank to fish from (about 20%), stock unknown. So I would say Sandiway Small, Rixton & Moore Quarry may be OK for you (though I would imagine Sandiway Small gets busy.
For Lymm, haven't looked at in detail yet, but noticed you need to do work parties or pay an overstamp fee to fish the good waters in the Close Season. Ok if you're able bodied, but if you have a few health issues like me, then it will cost you about £50 extra for the overstamp fee. What I have gleaned about the waters is: Tabley Mere boat only. Tabley Mere - difficult. Catch Penny Pool used to be a syndicate water I think. Lymmvale gets busy. Nunsmere big + low/unknown stock. Shakerley don't need the overstamp ticket for, very close to M6 (though you fish on the other side of the lake to the motorway), I'm sure there was a problem with predation years ago. I reckon Wrinehill & Catch Penny should be OK. Don't know the number of rods or anything about the rules yet on Lymm, haven't got that far.
On Northwich, Big Billindge gets busy at weekends.
The only other thing to add is I've got my name down for PAAS but a couple of year waiting list and I don't really know what the waters are like.

Sounds like we are in a similar boat.
I Turned down PA a while back as I was fishing else where and they now have a 2 year waiting list.
I'm just looking at joining somewhere as a change to my small syndicate, especially when I fancy a social with mates etc.
Day tickets up and down the country will be rammed this year.
Lymm probably has the better stamp ow waters but Warrington is cheap as chips, especially from the second year onwards and the Mount is only a short drive away so that may be handy, although not one of the waters Id choose.
Decisions decisions.

Yeah, not easy in this part of the world. Ideally, I was looking for a syndicate but there's not much chance of that in North Midlands/Cheshire.
I'm currently leaning towards WAA because as you say, cheap as chips and none of the working party/£50 extra nonsense. I'll have a think about it too, good luck .....

Still taking on atm.
To be honest I'm probably going to go with Warrington this year as they have a couple of venues close to me and I can take the lad.

ive been on big sandiway pike fishing today and both little and big were quite busy considering the time of the year
weekends tend to be very busy on both lakes as for car damage ive fished both lakes on and off for 15 yrs never seen any cars vandalised carparks with locked gates

Best club in the North West is Wheelock. If you haven't already, put your name on the wait list. It will be a good few years wait, but worth it. Join one of these others in the meantime. Loved Wheelock until I moved to London.

Yeah, waiting list currently closed. So you have to wait ages get on the waiting list, then wait ages get in the club.

It was 8 years last I heard,unless you get well in with a local tackle shop who seem to just get their mates on easily enough

Pulled the trigger and joined Warrington.

You've missed off the Northwich list the one that I'd join for if I didn't already have a ticket mate. Even with Tee Cee's acrow jack rods it'd be a daunting challenge though
You've listed the biggest clubs so highly unlikely you'll find waters that meet your criteria, busy venue wise.

That's spot on. I'm a member of Wheelock and the waiting list is closed, speaking with a committee member the waiting list, whenever it opens up again is now 7-8 years once you are on it.
Not many drop out each year which I can vouch for having been in 8 years. In fact one of the officials said to me at the current intake rate, it's more like a 30 year waiting list
Brilliant club though.

i saw a post on facebook this morning indicating that lymm have sold out of memberships for the year already so that one might be closed to you now mate?, they started a waiting list last year and it looks like it's going to be like that all the time from now on.
all the big clubs are at bursting point, last year was the worst i've ever seen it and the angling pressure was immense on most waters, if you're a 'weekend' angler like me you're going to struggle
you might consider northwich or winsford for the river weaver, there are plenty of carp left in the river and it's probably one of the few places you'll find some peace and quiet

I could have joined Lymm and was close to. Thy still had places left
Decided in the end to join Warrington for the year. Mainly as I live close to the Mount and I like the idea of giving Sandiway a bash.
It's also cheap, if I don't like any of the waters it's no big loss.
