12 or 13 footers.
I have the 12s. Best way to describe them, if you've ever used a 3.25lb Torrix, is as one of those with a bit more back bone. Decent for playing fish on, happy in the margins and can cast well. Nice and light, feel well balanced with my basias, not had any other reels on them though. Blank looks lovely if your worried about aesthetics. Had mine built by Kev Clayton. I haven't been found wanting with them, and can't say I've regretted the choice. Hardest decision was 12ft or 13ft. I had 13ft built at first but they had to go back cause they were *****. Not by Kev Clayton I might add. Used them once. Prefer the feel of the 12 fts, but no doubt if I'd have stuck with the 13fts I'd have got used to them

I have a set of 3, love them, crisp, sharp, good recovery, had UK fish to 55 on them and even under the rod tips they are excellent. 12 6 seems to be a sweet spot between 12 and 13'. Built by Mark Tunley with minima rings. They look and perform really well.

I had 13ft aviators and loved them,I then had a try of a mates 12ft 6 and ordered some from Kev Clayton straight away.They felt easier to cast to me and I just knew they suited me better.

I have set of 13 foot.
Bought them after trying them out and being recommended them by Terry Edmonds.
For me they are easy to cast. They are long enough as a 3.5lb rod to soak up fishes lunges.
I love mine and will never change them. I took years finding a set of rods that suited me.

I've got 13ft Aviators as well. Was advised by my rod builder to go for these over 12.6 version. As they were a bit better under the tip. I wanted a fishing rod that could cast as opposed to a casting rod that I would have to slacken the clutch while playing a fish in the margin. The 13ft does everything I need
I got a set of 12.5' Aviators built for me by Vic Gibson after a casting tutorial with Terry Edmunds & haven't been disappointed with them. They have plenty of backbone when I need it but are also really nice to play a fish on.

For me you can't beat harrison rods.
Its the unseen things sometimes like flying them all over the place
Bashed about and roughed up, no issues no myther they are robust and strong.
After the trebs it would be the aviators off kev clayton.
Mine are 13ft and just the job but I get what is being said below about the 12.6 jobbies I think that's to do with your physical size.
I use my chimeras for marker rod 12ft 3.5lb and can really feel the cast and can build up the tip speed.
13ft takes a bit of sorting but I like the way they play the fish.
Might be a complete waste of money purchase coming soon but due to not going fishing I've need to burn some doh on some fishing gear that I don't need............

Just seen that there is now Aviator Plus 2 or 3 variants, heavier TC for additional distance I believe.

Has anyone got a set of the 'plus 2's'?. Interested to hear any feedback think the 3.5lb would suit me better than the 3lb 6oz plus.

I have a set of plus 2s in 12ft they are lovely rods , perfect all rounders. I am really happy with them, been using them for a year now.

Reigniting this thread. Via Johnson ross I am looking at the aviators raven edition with normal reel seat. Torn between the 12ft 6 plus version 3.5lb or the 12ft plus 2 . I'd like a rod with a good playing action but also can put a lead 120+ fairly easily. Thanks

Ive got the 12ft plus 3 (3.75), they are great rods and are a nice playing action. I would think the plus 2's would be spot on playing and chucking them distances.

I have the 12'6" aviators and they have a beautiful action but still retain distance potential. Not had the 12' s so cannot compare but 12'6" will definitely deliver what you want.

10' Aviators in 3.25 - brilliant all rounders
12' Aviator Plus - Great to play fish on / crap to cast at range (IMO)

Maybe the plus 12ft plus 2 is a better option then. However calvin hancock has a set of the 12ft 6 aviator plus on Ebay that I quite like the look of.. could be a good balance

Not sure its the tc in 12' Plus (3lb 6oz) vs 12' Plus 2 (3lb 8oz) or the tip / tip speed - I ditched my 12's for 13's but 12' 6" could also be your sweet spot . . . .

He built me a set of 12'6 Aviator Plus about 5 years ago. They were £1200 , so you may be able to get the exact build you want for not much more than the eBay price.

Be fair the Ebay ones aren't far off and it's his actual eBay shop selling them so may just have to buy them:-). Full shrink and fuji reel seats. Only down side is the vortex air guides but I don't use braid so should be ok for my purposes

I would say they need a 4oz lead for distance but 150+ achievable. A lot of rod builders agree the 12'6 is the sweet spot in the range.

American tackle Tiforged guides are superb guides i have them on 2 sets of rods and they have properly abused and there's not a mark on them

I have owned both the 12ft and 12ft 6 Aviators and the difference is very noticeable. The 12ft 6 Aviator is a beautiful rod that can cast a very long way and also feel soft enough when playing fish close in. I struggled for distance with the 12ft and close in they are quite stiff. TBH I was so amazed at how 6 inch changed the rod so much! I had mine made for me by Nick Buss and they are a work of art. I also had the AT Ti-forged rings put on which are bullet proof but beware they hang a long way down off the rod. I could only find the korda Compaq range of holdalls would fit them.
Has anyone used the at ti forged guides with braid?
I notice a lot of builders are going down to 30mm second guide from the 50 with these guides

I like the airs on my 10's & 13's . . .plenty strong enough and make the rods so much lighter . . .don't use braid however . . .
