I've had SS3000's now nearly 10 years love them but recently
I've starting debating a change,grinding is starting on then but don't have many reels I actually love like my SS's...my pal has the shimano power Aero XTB's which I like but I've read their has been problems with spool caps ? Has anyone had any issues regarding this or any other problems ?

Yes this might be the option mate my worry with these newer Shimano is the spool cap is poor.

SS3000 or 5000T, same reel isn't it?
I'd f__k them off and get the Shimano's. Better reel all round. None of that reeling in for ages and ages and cocking about with daft rubber bits.
I'm sure it's a pleasurable experience going on a train journey on an old steam powered locomotive, if you want to get to your destination with the least bit of aggravation smoothly and fast, get with the future and go with the power aero's.

I made this mistake, went from Ss3's to the Power Aeros and regretted after my first session
2 of the spool clickers went, one of the spool rotors broke and that was that
Got the broken one replaced, repaired both the clickers and sold them on
Gone back to Tournies now
My advice is keep what you have!

This is my worry mate my SS's are mint there is 1
Little mark on them but my pal has the power aero and that wooden
Handle on them looks laaaavly lol but yes the spool clicker for me is an issue

Yeah seen that I'm not a fan of them tbh I seen Dave Levy changed his handles today on Instagram to brown wooden ones...really am debating the change maybe keep the SS's and treat myself to the Power Aeros

I went all faint when I saw the price for the handles lol.
Good idea. Keep the 3000'S and grab the Shimano's. I'm sure they'll gain in value and could be a good future investment so to speak.

keep them. yeah shimmys are smoother but, do you have issues with your drag cap on your SS? does the line keep getting stuck behind the spool? do you think you'll be issue free with shimmys after 10-15 years?
spend the money on your SS3000'S get them a really thorough service.

Get your reels serviced by Garry at custom reels my serviced tourneys where better than my ISOs until I had them serviced.

I'm keeping the Daiwa can't be dealing with this spool clicker issue etc as someone mentioned will these newer so called better reels still be working well in 20+ years we just don't know we do know tho that the SS3000 more than likely will,will keep my eyes peeled for some older shimano's tho for another set 😎

Can also vouch for Garry at Custom Reels. Does an incredible job.
Did 2 sets of SS3000 for me. Gave me a bell on phone to describe the internals and the work he was doing.
Came back feeling like new.

From memory it's about 30 quid a reel but if you need any replacement springs, washers, bearings, grommets etc then that's extra. He does the best line clips too imo. About £13 per spool from memory.

Found them...he's got power aero and XTB techniums for sale similar price,which is the better of the 2 ? Do both suffer with spool cap clickers ?

Never had spool clicker issues on my mgs but sold them as just did not like them.I sold my power aeros too as did not like them either.I used to only buy shimano reels but not anymore.
