I'm new to carp fishing, currently buying lots of gear, and trying to keep costs down. I am now looking to purchase a low cost bite alarm set with reciever, preference is for 3+1, or could be 2+1 as long as there is an option to buy and connect 3rd alarm to the set.
There are plenty low cost options out there, but are they any good? Some get terrible reviews, others mixed. All i am after is something that is reliable, in all weather conditions, beeps when it is supposed to, and with a reciever that works as it should.

Whenever this topic comes up I end up recommending the JRC Radar CX set which I'm currently using. Just haven't been able to fault them so far.
You may have to hunt around to find stock but I think you'll pick up a 3+1 set for just over £100 if you keep your eye out for a good deal.

Another one for the Radars, my son in law has them and they've been faultless. Yes there's plenty of other budget one's out there, but I think these are mentioned most as reliable, all the features and good battery life.

I'm an expat now living in Poland. That set is offered in plenty stores, but the cheapest price i can get for the set locally is £122, and thats for the 2+1. If i could fine the 3+1 @ £100 i might just go for it, but at the prices i have found so far, it stretches my budget a bit to much.

if you up the budget to around 150 ish you could get 2 brand new Nash Siren S5R and receiver or a set of ATTs second hand
Edit: if you're worried about quality, you can't beat ATTs. they are bomb proof and worth the money

Ah OK fair enough. I think when I picked mine up Amazon had loads in stock and I paid £109 I think for the 3+1 set. May be worth keeping an eye if any used ones are going on ebay

Have a look at the Prologic bat alarms.
My lad has just purchased 2 and they look and feel beautiful, very light. Had them set up on the lawn today and they seem to be really good value with plenty of settings on them. Push buttons. Waterproof.

Thanks mate, those Prologic Bats look really good. I can pick up the 2+1 set at £80 so that works. One thing i am not sure about though, is the 2+1 set appears to come with blue lights only. I thought the idea was to have a different colour LED for every alarm. All other sets seem to offer that. Would having same colour LED on the alarms be an issue?
Also, if i buy the 2+1, do you know if i can buy another bat alarm later, and also connect it to the reciever to make a 3+1 set?

Yes i noticed that, my preference would be to buy the 2+1 now to keep costs down, and in a few months, or maybe next season, buy another bat alarm to make a 3+1 set, but i'm not sure if another unit can be added to the 2+1 set?

All other sets I have looked at have a different colour LED for each alarm, so it seems that different colouring system must gives the angler some advantage, in quicker identification of which rod has a take.
How do others here feel about using an alarm set, all with same colour LED's, does it make a difference, or is it nothing to be bothered about?

LED's are a personal thing, some of my mate's have all one colour and other's, myself included have different colours and I have different tones too. Makes it far easier at night to know which rod is getting liners or interest without lifting your head, I'm sounding lazy now

My lads 2 are both red, which he prefers, as he leaves the single night light on them when he's night fishing. Which he thinks red is best for that.

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful input. I just ordered the ProLogic Bat+ 3+1 set with coloured LED's. I got it for £90 delivered, so a good deal I think. I'm off on vacation from 1st August, so it will be a good few weeks before I can test them on the water. Once I have had a few sessions with them, I will aim to come back to this thread and give some feedback, which will hopefully help others in future who are also looking for a low cost set of alarms.

I purchased a Bat 3+1 set last year, used them a couple of times and was VERY impressed with them. I was then offered a set of Delks very cheap, so passed the Bats onto my daughter. She absolutely loves them.
I managed (by some fluke) to pick the whole set up for £62.99! Absolute steal from Fishtec. This video (not brilliant) put me on to them and the deal that was being done at the time.....

I will be fishing all day tomorrow, overnight and all day Monday. Forecast is for constant rain throughout the day and night and all day Monday. I know these ProLogic BAT bite alarms are advertised as waterproof, or is it splash proof, I'm just wondering if 36 or so hours of constant rain could potentially damage them?
Has anyone tested the ProLogic BAT alarms in constant rain over a day or two, and if so did they hold up OK?
