Thank you so much to all of you guys who recommended one of the head torches on somebody else's thread recently, they are brilliant. I don't think I will ever use my big and bulky Ridge Monkey one ever again now.

I dont know why people buy the likes of ridgemonkey head torches when nitecore and fenix are the sane price. Leave head torches to the experts.

Just bought the Nu25 based on Gerry's recommendation ( he's cost me a fortune over the years but all been good buys). Out of the box it looks good, quick test around the house and garden looks good.
Going to use it for a few days fishing next week so should be able to give it a thorough workout over a few nights to test function, lightness ( amazing so far) comfort, battery life between charges etc etc etc. Early out of the box impressions are very good.

I have a Fenix HL60R which is great especially if you want it for other situations and not just fishing otherwise might be a slight overkill LINK

Yep I bought one a few months ago based upon recommendations here. I like it. Nice and lightweight and I particularly like the fact that after a few seconds pressing any button simply turns the unit off rather than having to go through the whole cycle.
Battery life isn't that amazing tbh and it has to be recharged every trip but you get used to it.
Is it massively better than some of he £10 jobs off eBay ( of which I own a couple)....no it isn't, but it's still the best I have used so it gets an 8/10 from me.

Send it back and swap it - seriously!
I just used one of mine for 3 night trips on the feeder, pointing at a quivertip and on all night without re-charging between sessions.
For carp fishing I reckon I charge mine once every 7 - 10 nights and even then it isn't flat.

I bought one on Keebs' recommendation, and last month arrived to do five nights thinking 'bugger, forgot to charge the head torch'.
Still haven't plugged it in! Still going strong!

Crikey, you must be right. I only use the light when necessary as well....must be an issue with it but I've probably had it for too long to send it back now,

I have just done 3 nights and used mine a lot as I was busy I caught 11 Barbel 5 bream and 1 chub so it had a lot of use !!
and was fine I have never had to recharge mine on a trip yet but even if I had wanted too its an absolute doddle just use my phone powerpack in the day to charge it no biggie

Only thing missing here is no green light. I do favour that over the red tbh. Have the Ridgemonkey (carp tax) but it's excellent and sleep is easy as you just have it on round your neck at night (it's loose)
Find it very comfy, battery life is amazing and can switch on anyway you put on too.
I know it's expensive but it is a very good product.

you will hate me for saying this after trying my m8`s Ridge monkey but its the honest truth I would not have one for a gift
I thought it was rubbish in comparison to my NU25 far too bulky and heavy I liked the green light though !
but then again the NU25 has 2 levels of red light and the 2nd level red is awesome makes it like a red daylight and of course does not destroy your natural night vision or attract insects

Just bought one myself so will compare it with my fenix hl50.
Well after playing about with them both. The fenix wins for me. The build quality of the fenix is in a different league being all aluminium and i like how the fenix pops out of its holder so it can be used as a normal torch if needed. Its quite a lot brighter as well on its highest setting. Its just as comfy as the nitecore. The nitecore is very good but feels a bit cheap and plasticky. The main bonus of the nitecore is that its rechargeable so wont cost you anything in batteries. If i had to buy just one it would definately be the fenix though even though its £10 more than the nitecore.

funny enough I have a Fennex too
and I have never found the need to pop it out to use as a torch or use the little extension bit either ! and I have the opposite view I think the NU25 is a far better torch so its 1-1 at the moment

last torch was a HL50 but no red light made it quickly redundant for me.
the only time I really use the white light is when I've got a fish on the bank or to check if my food is cooked, and I don't need a beacon for that.

Ive never used the extension bit and not even sure what it was for, it went in the drawer the day i got it. I always pop mine out of the holder and just sit it on the table on low, acts like a little bivvy light. We will have to call it a drawer then. Life would be boring if we all liked the same things.

Why did you buy it if it didnt have a red light? Im the opposite dont like the red light, i cant really see properly with the red light on. Green is slightly better than red but dont like that either prefer white every time. The fenix is hardly a beacon on its lowest setting, its very dull.

aaggh bet if you actually fished with it !!
you may change your mind the extension bit is so you can use a AA battery the red option on the NU25 on the high setting is like red daylight but of course just playing with it at home is completely different to being in the dark on the bank

Im on medication for my eyes to bring the pressure down in them as my dad is blind and has glaucoma and its hereditary so things are even more blurry under a red light.

I kept the Fenex in the bag in case I needed more light but never found I did. You're right it's fine on the lowest setting but was no different to the Energizer I also carried for its red light.
For me the convenience of being able to charge it was a game changer. I was always checking my batts using those expensive metered Duracell's and binning them when they got low so they didn't fail on me on the Energizer which gets expensive.

I'm looking for a new head torch. I only ever use one when I catch and have an extremely old Petzl which is very dull but it works for me.
I do however now need one that's much, much brighter as I will be casting in the dark, mostly fairly short but am looking for a torch that will allow me to see the lead land up to maybe 40 yards and bait up. Will the NU25 be up to the job?

No it wouldn't. The nu25 has too wide an angle for what you are after. The non rechargeable energiser ones might have a tint enough angle for what you are after, from memory.

never used a torch for night casting. clip up and use a far bank marker. much easier imo

I picked Up one of theses nu25 torches and agree they are a good bit of kit and ideal for fishing but it's not in the same league as my lenser h7R which I use for work I've had that 3 years and it's bullet proof all be it no red light

You carry on telling yourself that, I'll carry on finding carp in the middle of the night with a torch and watching them not spook.

I agree, it's amazingly bright on the highest settings but for what the chap wants, ie highlighting the far bank features, there are other torches with the same power but a narrower beam which would be more suited.
Personally I prefer the beam spread of the nitecore to other torches I have used, it's spot on for 99% of uses.
