Hi all,

Not prepped my own hemp before so have a couple of questions please.

1, if you were fishing Sunday for 48hours and wanted to prepare your hemp fresh what's the earliest you'd cook it? How many days will it stay fresh for without freezing?

2, I fancy adding some chilly powder to the hemp to spice it up, whens best to add it? I'm planning on 24hour soak (2 part water to 1 part hemp) then boil and bucket it once cool. Is there a rough guide on quantity to add also?

Thank you in advance. Any advice appreciated.

Paul

Cook it as close to when you want it as possible, fresh is best with hemp imo

Hi mate, personal preference as some like it fresher and some like it a bit fermented. If you want it fresh cook it the night before, I would add the powder to the mix once it is in the bucket after cooking cooling. Depends on the strength of the powder really regards quantity and what quantity of hemp you are prepping, some like to have it hot so don't be shy 😉

Thanks both. Saturday it is then 👍🏻

I'm a bit undecided on the chilly to be honest. I like the idea of it but I've got a nutty boilie that have been chopped and glugged, sweet corn, hemp and tigers. I'm wondering if the chilly might spoil all the flavours and overpower it?

I wouldn't worry about that, although for me plain hemp is the way to go

Soak it over night in a Decent bucket Or cool box
Drain it off and put it Back in the cool box or bucket
Cover it up with water from a kettle or saucepan etc and Put the lid on
Just leave it again over night

Thanks. I read a couple of opinions on the best way. Most seem to say soak for 24 hours then boil for 30 mins or until it splits. Can you over-boil it? Like if I boiled it for 30 minutes and then poured everything into a bucket and put the lid on. Will it turn to mush? I'm nervous of leaving it as if doing it last minute I want to make absolutely sure it's split.

Thanks.

Never had it turn to mush
But if you boiled it for 30 mins it will Mainly be ready anyway so you only need to throw it in a bucket to take to the lake lol
Chuck it in hot
I don't like the smell of Cooking hemp that's why I do it in the cool box or bucket

Easiest way is just chuck it in a cool box, cover in boiling water by a good few inches, put the lid on and forget about it for 24 hours

The seeds should split and the white innards come out, job done.

While we are on the subject, how long can you keep dry uncooked hemp in a bucket, just found some in the garage that may be a couple of years old and thought I might as well use it, looks ok-ish, after all I'm only going to chuck it in the lake?

If they are bone dry, look right and smell right they are fine.

Just finishing prepping it. It looks spot on. Thanks for the advice. The Mrs has stropped off into town because she says the house stinks! 😂👍🏻
