Anyone have any recommendations for a spray or gel that's easy to apply bank side and actually works ? Up and down all day and the bedchair are taking their toll.

deep heat mate - can't beat it.

and it will keep the mozzies away too with the smell!

alternatively come fishing with me - if recent trips are an example of my catch rate, you won't need to get out of your chair nearly as often...

Cant remember the maker but freeze spray is good, also some compression tubigrip which supports the knee will help.

Depends what the problem is, you should get it checked out.
I've had loads of knee problems in the past few years, each new doctor, consultant, physio and even surgeons have said the best fix is to strengthen the quads.
Hasn't helped me in the slightest but I guess what's wrong with mine is complicated since none of the above can give me an answer

I used to get a lot of problems with my right knee due to a motorcycle accident when I was younger, it eventually became both knees I would get issues with, clicking, puffiness which is basically water on the knee and is its way of trying to protect itself when it gets inflamed but can be very uncomfortable as it prevents you bending your knee fully, anyway about twenty years ago I had an MRI and was told it was basic wear and tear, I had an arthroscopy and some cartilage shaved off of the worst one but I started taking Glucosomine Sulphate (1500mgs daily) and a cod liver oil capsule over fifteen years ago now and I swear I rarely get issues with my knees these days and my job involves a lot of kneeling working under bars in pubs doing installs, I do get stiff if i'm in the same position for long periods of time but that is to be expected at 61, however I rarely get water on the knee which I would get regularly three or four times a year back then
Also as Fishie says tubigrip is good to support your knee if you are going through a particularly painful time but try not to get used to it as the muscles will start to rely on it, if I ever felt that my knees or a particular knee felt a bit weak I used to use a whole length of it doubled up and it gave me a lot more confidence to put weight on the knee, often whilst I was fishing and kneeling down low around in and out of the bivvvy

For many years I struggled with my knee despite hospital appointments. They really didn't do anything really until I really got persistent with GP visits too. Eventually I got a scan which revealed a torn meniscus which was causing clicking and cracking therefore causing loss of balance and the knee would give way quite often causing me to fall. I used to work nights and quite a few times I had to ring in sick ‘then I'd go up to A&E simply to get it recorded down again and to pacify my works too' because after getting out of bed I'd just fall over. Such a loud crack at times it'd make me feel sick. Had operation few years ago and now no problem.

Sounds like the meniscus.

Well i'm convinced that the Glucosomine Sulphate works but its not a quick fix, like I say ive been taking it for over fifteen years now, I do remember going to see my doctor a few years ago when I had been taking it and was still occasionally having problems and she suggested upping the dose to 1500mg ( I had been taking 1000mg a day up to that point ) and I have to say it made a difference to me, I cant say it would for you though, its best that you try and find out what it is that is causing your issues, it may be arthritis

I broke my kneecap 12 years ago in a trials bike accident, luckily 99% of the time it doesnt affect me but ever since I could use it again it's always creaked when bending it. I hate to think what issues it's going to cause me in years to come!

very true, a lot of lower back pain problems can be caused by weak glutes for example, mine were, suffered for years, went to see a sports chiropractor and was given various excercises and after a few years working on it am now ok.
I always wonder how many guys suffer from aches and pains that they just put down to the advancing years when there is actually ways to fix them it's just whether you can be bothered I suppose

A lot of aches and pains we get as we get older can be dietary.

Our bodies change as we get older and can be sensitive to certain foods.

I cut wheat out of my diet years ago and never looked back.

I had an ache in my today right hip for years that I thought was due to heavy squatting in the gym. It felt better after only two days of eliminating wheat.

There's a lot of truth in what you said as gluten can be one of the biggest problems with joint pain

I personally suffered with bad knee pains for a few years and I was sure I needed surgery.
I saw the best orthopedic doctor in town and he said it's small bone spurs into my knee cap and I wouldn't need surgery.
He recommended Online Pharmacy Ibuprofen for 5 days and 20min a day on a stationary Bicycle at 90+ rpm to heat up and smooth out the spurs. Worked great.

Good luck.

At 21 I tore my cartilage, the pain persisted until I finally had a scan and was diagnosed with a floating piece in my knee.
I would be perfectly fine then my knee would give way in excruciating pain, I was told this was when it was jamming in the joint, 1st arthroscopy sorted that. At the same time I was told I had excessive wear to the joint and it'd probably need replacing in 10 years.

27 years later and a further 2 arthroscopies during that time, it's giving me all sort of grief again at the moment, in fact I couldn't drive for 17 weeks over summer, bang went all my fishing time, still can't kneel down.

My doc prescribes me Co-Dydramol, it sorts the pain but eventually the swelling prevents movement. After my 1st op I was also given Sodium Diclofenac which is great in the short term, and available as a gel, but it's not suitable long term.

If it wasn't for other more pressing health concerns I'd be chasing a replacement knee.....not sure I could catch it though at the mo

This is very true, I have two collapsed discs in the bottom of my spine and got told by the quacks not to lift anything over 3kg. Between 10-16 tablets a day for nearly ten years and I had had enough. I went to the gym and strengthened my whole body especially my core and I now take between 2-6 painkillers a week. The bad back is still there but nowhere near as bad as it was. I believe strength is the key.

You're right, strength is the key. And I'm pretty sure that your decision to go to the gym was really good. When I used to have problems with my joints, I was just applying creams with CBD oil from BlessedCBD, and that's it. It helped me relieve the pain a lot, and I think going to the gym was just what I needed to do as well.
