I have used elastic band when I've run out, and now use pole elastic

Just being tight, thought there might be a non carp tax equivalent out of principle too. I use it for float stops when taking my lad so I can get through quite a bit. Tried the marker elastic but prefer powergum.
Alcohol situation good thank god, especially thanks to braders 1978 who suggested lidls version of stella. Cheers for that.

I expect heavy pole elastic will be your best bet

Yes, definitely the best lager I've had out of any of the 'fake' brands. Stella without the stella ness. This forums not just about fishing and corona virus. Many thanks.

If you are just using it for stops Try some thick braid if you have it. I much prefer it to rubber.

Never tried braid but my personal reasoning behind a decent thickness pole elastic is that it contracts and grips the line very well. One lake I fish I've had line markers on for well over a year.

Braid sounds a good idea, in an excitement to save £2.50 I ordered what I hope is non carp tax powergum. Comes in different colours too if you want to be fancy
