Hi all.
I'm posting this to see if there are any French lakes to avoid going forward, for any reason!
I'm looking to fish new lakes from this year and beyond, so wanted some hard facts about your experiences.
WHATEVER the reason, I'm interesting in hearing it, so I can avoid those places:
Money is hard to come by, so I want to spend wisely!
*If the stock is lower that advertised
*if the owners are dodgy with payments
*if the facilities are not very good
*if the venue is noisy
*if the venue is not secure
Etc etc..
Thanks

This could be interesting....

Just a reminder before we all go guns ablazing.

No naming of persons or waters on the basis of unsubstantiated rumours

Surely its better to ask for waters people recommend based on your requirements??

Let me start then by saying Valdore

The first time I went to France was at this venue with a group of us,overall the place was ok the food was ok and what I can remember the price was ok.

BUT having a number of lakes on the complex it was like a circus one guy on another lake had his baitboat fail on him in the evening but by the time he went to retrieve it someone had pinched it 👎
He packed up and went home.

I vouched never to go back to that sort of complex again and I haven't me a our party go to a lake exclusive now 👍

I understand this. Are you saying I cannot find out specifically which lakes have given anglers bad vibes?

Yes, anything like this is helpful..
I just want to spend my hard earned money with great fisheries, not the ones that take you for a ride!

First hand experience is fine.

"I heard..."
"my mate said.."
"The black cab driver the other day said..."

no.
You get my drift..

Me too, I guess...🤔
The genuine interested is to ask those that have had a bad experience..
Helping me especially, to find somewhere really accommodating, secure, great owners, really fair rules and reasonable numbers of good sized carp.!
Reading a fair bit lately, about fisheries showing their true colours when it comes to refunds during the lockdown, or deposits for future bookings..
but there is definitely a thread for that somewhere..
Anyway; any info would be good..

Search any venue you have an interest in.......should bring up plenty of information and go from there!

Some people write a bad review of a venue because they blanked, because the beer was expensive, there dinner was 5 minutes late etc!

What type of venue are you looking for???

That's hard a hard one to answer...
I'd say, 10-25 acres..
300+ fish
Drive and survive
Respected place
Mature lake and good facilities
You see by asking for the bad ones, it's much easier than asking for good ones, as they are so many good ones...! Elimination is easier
I'd still want to know which venues to avoid...

That's a start......

There's far more good venues than bad IMO........looking at your requirements I would suggest Moorlands, lesmont, gigantica, Crystal.

Have a look at them and see if they tickle your fancy.......

Just let people write down their bad experiences... Nothing wrong with that if they can explain why they think you should avoid certain venue... Better to have that in one thread instead of search on every venue you are interested in..the only problem is some venues pay to advertise here and I am sure they expect not to be in such a thread...

People can write what they like, just seems like a bit of a witch hunt IMO!

As long as people follow the rules Cam has posted then I'm sure there will be no issue......

I don't agree with the term witch hunt at all.
It's a forum, and sharing information, both good and bad is the point?? No?
Opinions differ, so I will always respect all views.

My first trip to France was about 20 odd years ago and still the only lake I have vowed to never to return to .
We met the owner at his house and he showed us a video of the stocking of the lake and various photos of the fish .
Cuckoo lake located north of Bergerac .
The biggest fish we caught was a 15lb mirror .
Just googled the lake and still appears to be full of pasties .
Limited information available back then , we'll and truly shafted .
Chemical loo filled within two days , having to 💩 in bags .
Just glad the local bar served fantastic food and vino

Its a shame theirs not an equivalent to say, "Check a Trade "........ Check a French Venue ,I expect that would force owners to up their game .

How about Trust Pilot .

I detest Poisson Chats and even called a lake owner to see if they had any before I booked. You have nothing to worry about was the answer, which meant we were given boilie mesh by the owner upon arrival.

I only go to places where I get positive feedback in advance so fully support this page.

I agree with information regarding bad experiences if there is substance behind it
not to ruin a business , but to make others aware

I am lucky that I have done research before booking any lake
I have struggled and even blanked at La Horre
I have been France or Spain 4 times some years and on average twice per year
as long as the owners of the lake are honest regarding facilities and fish stocks then I am happy
always try to read reviews before booking and not after

hope this thread stays , but is managed by the Mods

I guess my friends and I have been pretty lucky as we've been going to France for nearly 30 years and we've had 4 bad experiences in that time. Three of those lakes no longer exist as far as I know or they are under new ownership with a new name which I doubt. One is still out there but lack of income because of coronavirus may well put them out of business. They seemed to be struggling when the lake was open.
