Want too upgrade my reels - looking for something Good that will last me, don't want to spend £500 a reel big pits - not bait runners

You'll struggle to beat Penn Affinity 7000 LTD in terms of bang for your buck.
Daiwa Emblem Blacks also worth a look, updated version of a time proven workhorse. Not as refined as the Penn but bulletproof.

With the penns - sold out alot of places 😕 should I be looking for second hand? Doesn't bother me.

They come up fairly regularly. If you can get them the mk1's are the better ones. Expect to pay around £150 for three.
There's three mk1's on eBay but he's asking too much IMO. You could make an offer but I wouldn't go more than £180

If they had a shimano badge they'd be £300, so yes you get way more for your money

Strange you think the Mk1 is better,they had issues with the main shaft on the Mk1 (told direct from Penn rep).I was surprised as my mate had them at the time and they were superb,apart from a drag cap that broke(replaced foc and quickly)

Wouldn't touch reels of that price mate, way too much money for a carp fishing reel. I tend to not change my gear very much so we are opposites there..

I bought a set of the custom carbon Affinity 7000 from M & R tackle for 150 euros each a few months back.
Can only agree with all the positive comments about the Affinity.
They look better in the real and feel well made.
Don't be put off buying from M & R because they are based in Germany, the delivery takes no longer than UK retailers. Only downside is if you ever need to return an item I guess.
I have had three sets of reels for them over the years without any drama, with all sets being cheaper (sometimes considerably), than any UK retailer.
Deffo worth a look.....

PHIL - Ive came across these the 7000 on Facebook Market 2 for 150 but he's open to negotiation. So you think these would be just as good as the LTD as I don't mind a second hand reel.

If they're black then I think they are the LTD. If you do buy off Facebook make sure you use paypal goods and services and give the guys profile a quick look make sure it looks genuine and not a fake profile.

Just had a look angling direct have the affinity II in stock for £90 each. You should be aiming for £110 ish for the two second hand I would say. I've never used the affinity II but I understand they are comparable to the mk1

I've to agree. The 7000 is typical big pit size I'd say. The 8000's are HUGE

I'd prefer the MKI's too, the spec was just so high for the money - Titanium main Shafts, Line Roller, Bronze Bushes in the Spools etc.......... think they only came out with the MKII to keep the costs down = up the profits.
I can see the MKI Affinitys becoming another Abu 55 in years to come.

My mate got 2 brand new Mk2 for less than £150 but you don't get a spare spool now I don't think.I would offer him £120 with postage if you decide on them

I have 5500 XTB Ci4's and they are quite a bit smaller than the Affinity 7000.
Would deffo say the Affinity is too large for 10ft scopes.
Daiwa GS 4000 are perfect on my 10 footers 👍

It's a shame penn haven't brought out a small ss2600 size affinity, I'm sure they'd sell shed loads

I use a set of ultegras can get a second hand set of 3 for around 200-250 and they're a brilliant bit of kit for that money only niggle I have with them is the top drag seeming abit cheap and plasticy especially compared to the fox ones but it's a decent reel at a fair price

Shimanos were my first option - I was looking at penns for catting but been told on here and by a few others get penns for all round. Picked up a little set of shimano 6000d reels a few weeks back love the old school shimanos

I've got 1 shimano OC 8000 that i was planning to use for cats and get another one - but thought the penns would cover both aspects so save myself getting another shimano OC - it was FOC the biggest tackle shop in the country sent it by mistake 😉
