Hi, what's the best Shimano aero technium reel? Had the new 14000 in black but sold them cos they felt cheap to me.
There are alot older models out there but can't decide witch is the best one.

I've got the original10000 xsc ( non mgs ) and 10000 xsa mgs . I personally prefer older Shimano ... there's nothing between my 2 sets other than the decales and the mgs being a bit lighter but not by much . And the xsc having a slower oscillation. But my preference between the 2 is the xsa mgs

I found the older technium 1000 XSB ( non mag / non slow osscilation) the best out of the range.
Had most technium reels in the past,the Mgs XSB is also very nice.

As a 'thing' the mgs xsb. So much so that I have 2 sets. One that gets used and another brand new set that have never even had line on them

Got a set myself , love the Mgs XSB's , In my humble opinion I think they are joint top of the Technium tree with the 10,000 XSC , I've had/have every variant including XT's , only problem with them is their slow retrieval rate although I can forgive them for that , they are still a cracking reel

I own A few 10000 xt,s and a set of xsb,s a while ago now I spoke to Gary at custom reels about the xt,s as I wanted one of my older sets restoring,parts were very scarce for them at that point.he told me he had that many people asking for there's to be repaired he looked into buying tooling to make bits for them, but said it was not viable financialy.Unfortunately I can't find the e mail he sent But it was a very interesting In depth read.He told me the xsb,s were decent so that's what I bought.Bear in mind this was a fair while ago and there's obviously whatever incarnation of the black mag since so can't comment on them.
My favourite xt,s as I've used them from day one I still feel lucky to have one mint set left.Xsb I'm not overly into them look wise But mine have been abused and they still feel super smooth.Having said that I only use these reels when fishing range everything else just tournies,so I guess anything will feel smooth after using them.

I any use .40mm mono and above or heavy sinking braid and the line lay is on another level, this is where these things excel .
Had xts and mags and most of the high end diawas but settled on these.

I have a set of the 10000xsc and the xsb mags. To me the xsc's are the smoothest and best engineered but I still prefer the mags, they are so light, the quick drag is smaller which, along with the fact they don't have the line guard between the rotor and the spool, makes them more compact.

Had most variations of techs over the years from the xt to the black mags which i didnt rate at all and the original xt was the best for me but still not as good as the original daiwa iso which i still think is the best carp reel ever made. Just my personal opinion of course.

Currently using 14000xtc after retiring my 10000xt and they are just as smooth and line lay is still a thing of beauty.
I do understand the feel cheap comment but i think this is down to advanced materials used now. Xt felt robust because of the metallic material similar to the tournies and ss3000 hence their continued popularity.

Superb reel , I regretfully sold my Silver XSC's on to purchase a new set of rods as I had collected a few sets of Techs .
The XSC's do everything beautifully , cosmetically I prefer my Mgs XSB's though , the reel just looks more compact , the drag knob is super slimline but sticks out a little on the XSC , my thoughts only though cos I'm a tackle tart

To be the best carp reel ever made it has to cope with every situation , long distance fishing with the iso is a pain because of slow retrieval rate , therefore wouldn't even be in my top 10 , I currently use my 14000 Ci4 xsb ultegras for my long range fishing , I'm talking 300 yards plus

Would not be in your top ten because you're a shimano user.I sold my isos as I'm fishing an old sand quarry,I now own the shimano power aero 14000 xtb and they feel utter ***** compared to the iso.I bought the power aero as I won't mind if they get wrecked

Reels are so subjective, i use both shimano and daiwa reels and have no bias to either make, i remember buying some iso's after they stopped making the xt tech.
I took them both out on a big reservoir numerous big casts retrieval etc and in my opinion the iso wasn't in the same league no where near as smooth even though the tech was nearly 10 years old, the tech felt far easier on the retrieve and just better made, but i dont think many reels are made as well as they used to be.
Im lucky the main set of 4 i have have been serviced several times and garry at custom reels said they are in the top 4 sets he has seen condition wise, and i also have a mint unused set of 3 still in boxes, plus several spares that lot should see me out!

I own both Daiwa and Shimano models ! Had a set of ISO's , couldn't stand the ***** retrieve and one of them was rumbling badly so got shut
So what has the ISO got that the Power Aero hasn't ? First time I've ever seen a power aero called ***** Mind you I expect no less from a Daiwa fanboy like yourself , go get another set of Diawas so we can all be happy

The power aero feels cheap and nowhere near as well made as the original iso.I did not want to ruin the iso's so sold them on.I am not a daiwa fan boy at all but you have to turn it into a slanging match as usual you ****ing bellend

I wasn't fond of them eather mate they felt nice but got sick of the line going behind the spool evan theo they had a line guid on them

The line going behind the spool on my mags was down to me in the end, filled them up too much hence the line would keep coming off and exaggerating the problem.
Still Less myther with a line guard but I did get this issue under control in the end and that's with really thick mono

I had the 12000 xtc aero technium before I purchased the xtb mgs.The xtc even though virtually same reel apart from weight and maybe a couple of ball bearings felt a much better reel.I wish I had not sold the xtc techs

The xsa handles are the best out of all of them. Most folding handles are black not sure how that will look on all silver reels
