noticed over the last year my close range eyesight has deteriorated.
having real trouble threading lines through swivels / hooks etc.
never thought much about it really until i tried some reading glasses on from a mate at work - & bloody hell!! deffo got a problem!!
been for an eye test and yep - reading glasses are required!!
mid 40s now - any body else in the same boat?
(edit - just got my perscription reading glasses - & what a massive improvement!!!!

Luckily if you can call it that , I made early 50s before needing glasses to read.

Same here mate , mid 40s now , wear glasses for seeing distance but have to take them off to see the I pad,
Noticed it badly in the last year

Got to early 50's needed reading glasses so splashed out. Now nearing 57 and need distance so varifocals take a bit of getting used to but glad i did. Now need reading all time and distance if my eyes are getting tired.
My problem was initially with glasses was that everyone was staring at me and being self conscious
Just accepted it now and its surprising how many people wear glasses that you didn't notice before, also how many youngsters are wearing glasses, it must be all that screen time

Pretty much same for me....didn't realise how bad my eyes were till I got some readers ...... I bought a cheap pair for fishing as its only a matter of time till I sit on them or break a them being a clumsy git.....

At a job I was working at a few years ago they arranged for a nurse to come in and see every one,I knew my eye sight wasn't great and when she tested my eyes it was confirmed that I needed to wear reading glasses.

Yup knackered eyes now been wearing for about 5 years
I could tie flies on an 18 hook now I have to use a 6 or 8 lol
I've had arc eye a couple of times put a pair of long nose pliers into my eye Metal shards,all kinds of stuff over the years which haven't helped

Obviously you need an optician when it comes to prescription glasses but I've had it very good authority from a top optician (Neil D Cox if you want to look him up) that when it comes to reading glasses unless you have an odd shape head the ones from Poundland are fine. I've got loads of them sprawled around the house in different strengths depending on the job in hand.

Made it to 32 before I needed glasses, I need different prescription for each eye one myopic and one hypermetropic

been using them for almost a week now...
got over the fact i look like "different" and all the lads calling me 4 eyes at work..
only been a week and TBH i cant live without them now... really shows how bad my close range eyesight is.
My perscription is 1.75 (both sides) , so ive purchased some decent ones (rayban frames fitted with perscription glass lenses) for home use and weekends , but have also purchased 4 pairs of plastic ones (not too bad TBH) for £12 delivered
from amazon for work and general crap...(pair in van , 2 pairs at work , pair in tackle bag etc)
all good so far
(well , i can ****ing see!)

Having been a keen golfer up until a couple of years ago, I first realised I needed to start wearing bins when I found it increasingly difficult to read the card when entering scores for my mates. Stupid thing was, I could still see a golf ball quite clearly sitting on the green some 200 yards away!
Started wearing reading glasses initially, (taking them off between shots!), but eventually went for eye tests and was told I needed to start wearing varifocals.
Been wearing them now for about 15 years.
Bloody expensive when compared to normal single lens glasses though.
Having said that, my last two pairs were prescribed and supplied by our local Asda opticians.
Absolutely brilliant, and I got two pairs, (one pair Polarised for fishing), for cheaper than the price of a single pair from some of the better known high street outlets.
So take a tip.......... if you need glasses, try your local Asda (if they have an opticians).
Superb service and prices, 100% recommended.

I'm always a bit suspicious of opticians, Why did he tell you that you need varifocals if you could see a ball at 200 yards?

Some years back the optician told me I needed varifocals but I thought I was okay until after I got them, I was at an England football game and wasn't that far from the pitch and couldn't see who a particular player was so put on my new glasses and it was only then I realised the optician was right.
Previously I just used reading glasses.
But I must add that the more you use them eventually the more you need them.

That's very true.
Due to keratoconus my eyesight will never be perfect and so due to being vain I tend to put up with not so good eyesight.
