Hi guys thinking of getting my first bait boat. The tech you can get now blows my mind but paying 2k is rediculous. Can you advise me on doing this sensibly? I'd like GPS and fish finder added. Is there a more realistic price on this set up?

Have a look at Carptechnics SB3 or SB4. If you give them a ring they will sort out just what you want, top quality boats at a reasonable (if there is such a thing as reasonable in carp fishing) priced.

Unless someone can point me in the right direction, you can't get a good echo with GPS for less than £700 (Tolson t640)
Maybe a lake reaper then fit this yourself, around £1k all in.
Or just sack off the echo

Depends on where your fishing and what it's for. Myself also been a pike angler who fishes lakes in the Lake District it's vital to have one so you can find drop offs. It also helps to map lakes for carp fishing.

Echo is more important than the gps, can still use far bank markers and marks on the line.

Personally after owning and using baitboats for a number of years (I have had 5 different ones )
if I wanted to keep the cost down I would say the GPS is a great luxury ! but not a necessity a decent Echo is what you really need to help locate features
prior to owning a boat with GPS like most people
I simply lined up a skyline feature and marked the line with pole elastic in conjunction with the sounder I was confident I was on the money everytime
the only time the GPS saved me was when every morning there was a mist on the water for the 1st 2 or3 hours of every day on this particular lake and just could not see the boat but that was only once in god knows how many trips

Get a lake reaper with the futaba handset, brand new for £350 and get a deeper pro +. All in should be about £500.

I had the Angling Technics GPS System it was very good when I 1st got it I marked the bank where I stood and then sent the boat way out in the lake then turned my back to the lake and practised driving it back on the GPS spent a whole day doing this it was time well spent
the superior combine GPS sounders came later

Angling tecnics gps is massively overpriced as its 15 year old technology........ a tolsen gives you the best of both worlds ..... good gps and a fairly good fishfinder ........ but as said gos is not relly needed ...... a good fishfinder is worth its weight in gold when it comes to finding spots

its always been silly money but its all that was available back then I dont think anyone would buy a new one now

Deeper doesn't work with Reaper, both operate on 2.4Ghz

i am 80 years old and I can't cast far or accurately any more. Is it wrong to use a bait boat?

You are utilising a tool to aid your angling.
Was a fixed spool reel deemed cheating in the early years of specimen angling when others only had centrepins ?
No it was not, it was forward thinking anglers utilising new technology of the period just as you are by using a boat.

I got mine 2 weeks ago. If you message them they will tell you when their delivery is due. They do sell really quickly when they come into stock. They also do 2 bigger boats but quite a bit more money
